I was just curious, what motors will drop right into a 2001 ZR440 sno-pro? I was reading that like 98-up ZR500-600 motors drop right in, what about 700, 800 or 900 motors? I'm assuming I would need to swap out coils, carbs but what about like the Airbox, Clutchs, Exhaust pipes, Electronics, etc. Thanks alot, Pete
Greg B.
The 5 and 600 twins will bolt right in. You will need the primary clutch I think, pipe, cdi, wireing harness to keep it simple, you can use the sno pro air box, and some other odds and ends that I am forgetting about. The best one to drop in there is a non apv 600 twin. it is the easiest one to do. The 8 and 900 you have to change the bearing plate and do some mods to the bulk head for the front engine mounts. If you search on here there is pics on what you have to do to get a 900 in one. the chassis mods are not that hard to do.

go with a bigbore 900!
it can be done

Anyone know if an 2000 Arctic Cat 580 motor would drop in? I have one at work that has a cracked case that I can get dirt cheap.
Greg B.
I would not wast time with a motor with a cracked case. What happend to cause the case to crack. It will get spendy quick to fix. A good used 500 or 600 twin to drop in there will only be about 5-600 bucks.
sno_pro_500
didnt arctic cat had a 580 in that style chassis it was called pantera with a purple hood . built in 2001 or 2002, i think the mounts are the same , well some thing to look into??
SEEKandDESTROY2
It was in a 580 Pantera that was wrecked, and upon impact the starter motor was ripped off and took part of the case with it. Luckly the part it tore off was where the magneto was, so the motor probably would still run fine even though I would replace it anyways.

Is that motor on ebay right now?
2000 SnoPro
hey guys is there any difference between a 2000 and a 01 440 bulkhead? above it says a 600 will bolt right in just wondering if they are the same bulkheads. thanks

Yes it was, just ended i believe.
Fast 440
All 500, 600, and 700 wildcat/ZR motors will basically bolt in, you may need to purchase the proper motor mounts. 550 & 580 will fit with the proper motor mounts also. 800 / 900 Big Block need to have the bulkhead modded to fit but can.

You will need to convert all of the electronics, air box (maybe), pipe & can, but your clutch should work as long as you change the weights and springs in both of them to the proper specs, (unless you go to a 800 or 900 which needs a different primary clutch).

Would a 600 APV motor fit in no problems or just the normal 600?
Greg B.
yes. that would be the best one to do IMO as far as easy to do and performance.. you can always add a 720 kit to it

what about dropping a one of these engine into an 03 440 fan sno pro

You will have get all of the parts to make a cooling system for it. I think the front cooler might be part of the bulk head on the liquid model but I am not 100% sure on that.

The fan bulkhead didn't have a cooler.
