Full Version: Ryde FX shocks on edge skid

I picked up a edge skid for my 800 XCR and it looks to have stock shocks.

I would like to put a set of Ryde FX shocks on it before the install into the gen2.

How much should I expect to pay for a set of FX shocks and where would be the best place to look for the best price?
xc-mark
the front track shock is most likely a fox, its fine but I would get it revalved to suit your needs. the rear track shock is one of those "position sensitive" shocks, in stock trim its junk for anyone that is over 100 lbs and rides hard. there is ways of getting that shock to work for your needs I would talk to Jerry from JB shocks and see if he can help. If your still in the market for a RYDE shock the stock polaris valving on the edge version is to stiff for a normal rider but ok if your into jumps and mogles . I would still get it revalved after owning one myself, I am 240lbs with gear and ride mogles hard. stock .375" springs are fine for anyone under 260lbs , the front track spring maybe slightly to soft cosidering the weight of the genII with a tripple up front.

Another question / option, will the electric shock that is on it work on the edge skid?

I've got edge skids in both of my XCR 800's and I didn't use the electric shock on either one.

the front track shock is most likely a fox,

The 01 used Fox all around, later years used different combinations of RydeFX and Fox, I think the most common would be a RydeFX on the front tq arm, then a Fox PPS or Fox clicker on the rear.

I would also get them at least rebuilt, preferably revalved too.

I don't think the electric shock will fit an Edge. Don't think there is a Ryde that will fit the rear of an Edge either. Can't think of where one was used in production anyway. I agree with Ivar too. The Fox clicker, valved to suit your riding style, is easily the best shock I've ever riden on (Edge suspension). There were some Fox PPS clickers under the Anniversary 600's that were super nice also - but you don't find many of them around. After the clickers, JBshocks tuned PPS is likely the best plan - or have him install a clicker on your PPS.

Edit: 50th Anniversary - sorry

i believe ivar is correct...i remember 02 and later edges used ryde shocks for ifs and front track shock.....rear track shocks were of the fox position sensitive type or a clicker as an option.

your x10 electric is definitely a no go. to short and probably junk after this much time anyway. Cheapest thing is to tweak yours PPS 2 for it unless you are really just super aggressive. The PPS has limitations.
XCRDave
Looking at the shocks they apear to be just your basic black stock shocks on both front and back.

I have been watching ebay for some fox or FX shocks to put on this skid before installing in the sled but nothing has come across.

What should I expect to pay for a set of good shocks good ready to go for this 02 edge skid?

Thanks,
ivar
Any idea which sled the skid came from? If it got just the plain black shocks, could be from a Indy 500..? (Wasn't the Supersport 550 still in the GenII chassis for 02..?)

My two 2001 XCR's came with the Ryde Electric shock, total junk in 1 year.

I'm going to pull the shocks off and get some measurements and post, maybe by shock lengths someone might know what it is.

I did send a question out to the person I bought it from asking what sled this skid I have come out of. It was posted simply stating it was 02 edge skid.

Both of suspensions are the same in my 01 XCR800 and my 99 XCSP700 having fox shocks in both except for the electric front shock on the 800. The one I picked up is different than the ones currently in my sleds. Unless they revised the skids in the 02 gen 2 sleds, this is a edge skid. I hope I didn't get ripped!

length should be 12.25(they actually change from year going from 12.125 to 12.375 but anything in that rnage works) and 16.375 for the rear.
XCRDave
It looks like ivar is correct, found out today that it came out of a 2002 550 fan cooled super sport. It was advertised as a 02 edge skid and by looking at it I would say it is a edge skid.

Now I will get to pulling off the shocks to measure. Do I only need the extended length? I see timespentserching is only calling out the exstended length. It looks like it would be pretty tough to find the compressed length on the front shock.

Your XCR came with an electric front suspension shock??
XCRDave
It looks like I need the front and back shocks. The front shock will need to have the coil on it to support the gen 2 with the tripple.

What kind of cost am I looking at
XCRDave
By the way what is ment by extended shock?

Is there somthing else I should be looking for with these shocks.

XCR1250 - yes it has the adjustable shock, and believe it or not it still works. It does make quite a difference going from firm to soft.

The only reason I want this skid in the sled is to fit a longer paddle track through the tunnel.

The rear/rear should have the electric shock, not the front/rear.
XCRDave
I guess I took it for granted when talking about the rear suspension. Yes I believe the front/rear shock is the one with the wire running to it I will have to take another look at it to be sure.

That would be different than my two 2001 XCR 800's then, my rear/rear shock is the electric, wouldn't make sense to put it on the front of the skid, imho.

BTW, even when you remove the electric shock, the switch and gauge will still show it working.

xcr is right. the extra 10 version electric is in the rear. This is what should be in your sled. The front rear skid shock being electric was in the x12 application.

it was the aniversary model xc700 I can't recall if it was 99 or 2000

Hmmm, okay. I was trying to find it on my Polaris Parts Smart and couldn't, my wife owns a 99 XC 700 and I know hers is the Gen 2, doesn't have an X 12, but rather I believe it's called the SC 101 and are X-Tra 10's, looks like my XCR 800's suspensions.
I'd be interested in finding out which year and model used the electric X12 front/rear shock and then if still available from Polaris, I might have someone who would like to have one, let me know if you figure out where they were used.

Thanks.

Don

The aniversary xc 700 model was a 2000....knew it had the xtra 12 skid but not sure about the electric shock deal.

Darn, it doesn't show that being the case either on Part Smart or on the dealer only factory websight, maybe it was a special order, snow check or something, I wish I could find out if it's still available.

You got me going on this on....i just checked partslands site for the 2000 xc 700 deluxe model....its listed under the rear torque arm page in there. electric shock part# 7041805....wiring harness part# 2460889....whether they are still available...??
jbshocks
remember that the front skid shock on x12 is the long one and main shock in that skid. Something like 18 inches if I recall. Not sure if that still works for what you are thinking.

I found it, I should have looked in "Deluxe" models, I was searching on the regular XC's. Thanks.
BTW, factory sight shows they are still available and in stock.

i can go 250 for the 2 all rebuilt and revavled for you. all will ahve fresh powdercoated bodies, new seals, and any new replaced parts as needed.
john 800
thats a pretty good deal especailly if you consider saving the shipping to have them rebuilt somwhere else
XCRDave
TimeSpent Searching,

250 sounds good, what kind of shocks are they? Ryde FX or Fox also, clicker? does the rear / front come with the coil spring?

I did do some measuring and found the measurement of the rear / front at 12.125 but the rear / rear I'm seeing 16.700 not sure if thats a problem.

How do I contact you for the purchase? SledAsylem link took me to my face and all parts racing has a broken link and I get the error message.
