I am "NOT" bad mouthing the new XP, I reallllllllly would like to know if owners would be willing to take bake the extra 8lbs. for the solid driveshaft.. 8lbs. is what they saved by going to the tinfoil shaft... I was concidering the new 1200 4 tek but hated the hollow tube. To me I wouldn't mind at all to regain 8lbs. of weight for peace of mind.I asked this queastion on doo-talk and got kicked right off...No one will ever convince me that a hollow tube that weights 8lbs less will hold up as long a a solid steel shaft..

Guys over on Doo-Talk a little sensitive are they? Oh well. To heck with them if they can't take a joke!

I hear what you are saying about the hollow shaft, but I have heard the same argument for a hollow vs solid shaft in other applications. Engineers claim the hollow, but larger diameter shaft is stronger than a solid one. The solid units they compare to are usually smaller. They claim the larger diameter hollow shaft is stronger and a whole lot lighter.

I don't believe the XP shaft failures were the actual shafts themselves, but the welds where the drive sprockets are welded on to the shaft. It was more of a manufacturing process defect than it was metal fatigue, but the result was the same.

This weight saving thing does have it's limitations and reaches a point where the consequences don't justify the savings. I think SkiDoo has gone a little too far and may have to back track a little. Hopefully they have the sense to admit their mistake, beef up the components where needed and move on.

It is sad when a new model is released and it takes 2-3 years for the Company to get it right. Same thing with Cat. Twin Spar released in '07 and "hopefully" finally what it should be in '09. As consumers we are laying down way too much cash for that kind of crap. All 4 Companies need to get their act together!

I think so too. A large hollw shaft, -should- be stronger or as strong anyway.

The 07 twin spar chassis is spot on for a first year sled.

X2 not one single major issue.

No issues in 2007? What a joke! You guys should read the topics at the top of the F Series Forum. The 2007's were perfect. That is why Cat made so many changes to them in '08 and '09.

I do not need to read about I live it, put over 3600 miles on in first year with 2 very minor issues no need for warranty. I cannot speek for the F's, but the Jag has been perfect.
