Wondering if anyone has a creative way for making a mono head for my 02 800? Can't strap cylinders together or run aftermarket as it moves me up a class in the drags. If I can weld them together or use a stock mono head from another model, that would work. Has to look stock.

Also, I updated the old 02 airbox to the newer, narrower design of the recent 900's. I know you can pull the shelf out for the carb sleds, can you do that same for the EFI versions?

Thanks.

The newer airbox off the 900 robs about 5 horse compared to filters, you will also want to watch the bsfc to each cylinder. All of these things you are talking about will not let you run a true stock class. The stock heads cut to the right spec will be fine.

When I put the aluminum idlers on the ZR they considered it a lightweight part and moved me into improved. Since then I have been working on the sled to "improve" the sled every year. I would like to run an aftermarket mono head but not allowed in improved. Some guys strap the cylinders together but that too moves you up a class. All the rules say is that the head has to "look" stock for the sled so I thought if there was some way to have a mono head that looked like factory then I might get away with having the cylinders move together. Oh well....have to stick to just cutting them down to spec and deal with the movement some other way.

With the aribox, I removed the old 02 box and installed an 04 900 box. It's a lot more open in design compared to the old 02 version. I have heard of some guys removing the shelf in the box, mostly carbed sleds, but thought that guys with EFI were doing it too. I have one yes from Snowest.

I've had both boxes on a carbed 800. the 04 box is easier to work with, essentialy the exact same box with the extra third portion removed. Remove the shelf, cut the heads down to .060 or so that will give you in the area of 155lbs compression, add timing, burn good gas and most importantly as you need to keep the engine straight, install a good quality torque arm/link. for drag race use, I'd go with one that mounts on the PTO side. I'm not sure exactly why you wanted to hook the heads together to start with.....

Good info..thanks. I installed a torque link right from the get go. One of the single best things you can do to the 800 and 900's in my opinion. I recommend them all the time. Heads will be off soon and getting cut. Why I would like to have them together is that I have been told by some older racers that the twins cylinders move independently quite a bit under heavy load. As I mentioned, some guys strap or weld them together but that moves you up a class. Don't think I will worry about it anymore.

What;s your take on single pipes for this engine? I have a D&D single with Y but am not convinced it really works. Will be puting it on a dyno this fall.

I've had Every popular pipe for an 800. The DD with the DD Y or a BMP pipe mod (also with the DD Y) are the way to go I'll say. Once your on the dyno you'll see where it works. Stock tachs are Off, the pipe needs to be On and when you throw in any porting or timing hitting the high note correctly becomes pretty important.

where is the best place to find a torque link??

I bought the one from Bill at Sno-Tek. Really easy to install, good price, and very effective. You might try Black Magic too. They may have a good deal on one now that they are shuting down.
