You could buy mine for the price of what it would cost for a big bore kit. It makes 185horse and has the 10.4 clutch extra heads and cdi's. If its an efi I have a complete engine that is a 990 big bore complete.

x2 on the 2004 & track shaft.
I'd update the primary weights to at least 83 gr if the rider weight is under 175 lbs. Also look into getting an engine torque arm, just be sure your clutches are alligned before installing the torque arm. I bought a 10.4 secondary but never felt the need to install it on my 05 ZR900 so I have no input on it with the 900's. But the 10.4 has kept my 05 F7 running alongside the 06 F7's.

Track, clutch, reeds.....$1000.00 buys you 3-4 mph.....other then that.....trade it in for a F1000! Good luck!

These guys have been pretty much bang on but I'll add some more: airbox modification, BMP pipe mod $200. DD Y pipe $120, Reeds $250, plus the mentioned torque link $100, that's the must haves. then if you can get good fuel, for the $ you can't beat a timing key. all in all you will not see much more than a 4-5mph increase up top, if that, you will gain acceleration and torque. yes it looks to be an 04.

A 100% stock 1000 is not That much more of a performer than a stock Ddrive 900. If you want more, be prepared to open the wallet.

Mostly what the other guys said.
Make sure the DD is updated. Putting in the 10.4 sec makes it much nicer to drive through the trails with the lower drive-away speed.Torque arm is a must IMO. You can add all the speed parts, but if your clutches shift out all the way, and your gearing is stock and the Rpms at WOT stay at 7400-7500, your top-end speed is not gonna be increased-- (snow conditions not considered). The sled may get there quicker, but not necessarily a Faster Mph, but at what MPG loss? Clutch it,stud it, align clutches and have fun with it! snap
P.S.- if you just bought it, how do you know that it needs to go faster?-- ride it 1st.
