Looking for any suggestions on tightening up some loose steering issues on an '04 pro X2 700. I realize that the Rod End which attaches to the rod up to the bars is definitely worn out and needs to be replaced... Is there an easier way to get to this rod end and replacing with a new one without having to pull the entire motor??! Also is there any good aftermarket rod ends that would be a better replacement over a stock polaris replacement? b/c i think this may take a lot of work and don't wanna be forced to have to replace it all over again in another 1500 miles... i'll take any suggestions i can get, thanks

Look at the top post, "Frequently Asked Questions" and half way down the page is the "loose steering fix".

just go to www.partsland.com and get the factory parts to fix it, they don't cost that much

Kinda off topic but is that a good place to get OEM parts? Looking for a way to get away from going to the dealers. I hate dealing with the dumb ass punk kids at my pol dealer parts place. Always screw something up with everything I order. wacko.gif

Have the same sled but my motor is pulled so easy gettin to the problems. Just getting the right parts is the trick.

Most of the slop comes from the idler arm, and pitman arm bushings that are pressed into the rack. Not only does the pressed in bronze bushing wear the inner bushing is to long. this causes the inner bushing to wobble in the rack causing the excessive play.

1) Replace the inner bushings (4 pieces) on the steering rack. They are not available from Polaris, they only sell the complete assembly. The bushings are SAE standard available through a bearing supplier.

2) Replace the inner bushings (2 pieces). These are available from Polaris. Then take .010" off the end of them. This will eliminate 90% of the slop, especially the clunking sound your getting.
