Closer to 155 hp for trails on pump gas....even that is border line. Had a buddies dynoed in the 165 hp range that tried riding trails in quebec....kept cooking it till we dropped compression and carb size....was running dynoport pipes into a single dynoport can.

no, its more then 155, the 99 was in the low 140s stock, there is a xcr8 top end on here for sale, flannery ported, with htg pipes, low 180s, seems that would be the way go. should be in the 170s with the 7oo jugs. HE IS TALKING TRIPPLE !

Yup...700 triple triple in the heavy aggressive chassis. A buddy modded one for fast trail/lake back then. Was about 165 hp. running dynoport pipes...porting and 42 mm carbs. Motor was professionally built to run 93 pump gas and a little race gas mix. He squeaked it two or three times...i believe in the mid-range riding in quebec. Once detuned some with head work and 38 mm carbs it survived on the trails. Probably better off going the big bore way to get the hp....will be more reliable when running pump gas.

Hay thanks. I think I will stay away from the big bores. I nead somthing that will run in the 700 mod class. thanks for the info.
P.S. av gas all the way.

Not too big on av gas here.....different flame fronts and additives made to run at higher altitudes. av gas = a can of worms in sleds.

All I run here is AvGas 100 octane in my asphalt sled. Burnt down with 93 and wont run it straight anymore. Has been very efficient and burns very well in my motor. Consistent burn also. Have friends that run the same fuel as I do and it is consistent with them also. FYI.

Yeah....might be fine under controlled conditions as such....even heard guys having good luck running av gas in moto bikes..but for reasons i mentioned we had lots of problems with it racing cross country trail sleds. Back then we could make more power with pump gas or a race gas mix. Av gas delivers weird plug readings so reading piston wash is a must.

Yep after I get done bilding a moter I run it for 10miles and check the wash and the plugs. I like two run on the leen side so I like my plugs golden brown.

It will also matter what year the XCR is as the 98s were the 680 ultra motor and the 99s were a true 700cc with VES and come out of the box at 142hp

155 borderline?????
Im not tring to be rude but if thats the case I think its time to find a new motor builder!!!!!!
Lets do some simple math real quick.......
my XCR 700 stock...142hp.....now lets say for fun that the numbers given for aftermarket parts are true.....just to prove my point....so HTG claims 10hp on there pipes.....=152hp and V-force reeds clam 3hp.....155hp.....I guess the money i spent on porting, head mods, having the carbs bored, and playing with the timing was all a waste of time and money??? Ive ran into a few places on the trail that only had reg 87......and never melted it down.....might have to video a dyno run cause im sure if it could laugh it would laugh right on by the 155 mark

Ya I am not sure about all that I think that you could get about 165 out off a 700xcr but that is just my opinion.
p.s I did not know that polaris had ves in 99.

I had a 1999 700 XCR Ves motor a few years ago that I ran in a Pro-Stock Grass XCR chassis. The motor was done by HTG, and was dynoed with 47.5 mm Lectron Carbs on 114 VP Race fuel with 200 horsepower. This was the only motor they had that was that high, and never was reproduced. Mid 190's hp was the norm for that set-up and with stock rack carbs 190 was a good motor. Now... That was with Jaws Race pipes, ports and crank opened up then epoxied down. My friend had the same motor with Crank Shop race pipes, and ran 112 fuel. Thought he had a race motor until they tore it down becuase it made 170 hp on the dyno... Was trail ported. I would think that the same motor with trail porting and trail triple pipes with the right compression to run pump gas would be somewhere around 160 easily. The 170 figure was with sacked out rings and cylinders also. He about shit when they dynoed it at that... and HTG pulled the cylinders off and looked at them with a crappy trail port job.
And yes... 1999 was the first year for triple VES, and the only year for a 700 VES XCR motor.

Motor dyno. No sled pulls 200 hp on a track dyno... At least not a conventional CVT set-up.

ya you are right thank you for the info hm... how fast would it go?

I'm not sure which sled your refering to when asking how fast would what go but I will hit what I think are both possible questions... My sled on grass, 500 foot race, would run 5.0 seconds. At that time 4.9 was world class, and it had the potential to do that and more, but I lost interest because of prices, politics, and distance to drive to race. It would run about 104 mph in 500 ft.
Now the trail sled that you are questioning about... 110 mph would be good top speed if clutched and geared correctly. Cant help on that though as I never had one of those sleds with that motor on the trail. You couldnt pay me to drive and Aggressive chassised sled on the trail now a days in comparison to Gen 2's, Edge's, and IQ's.

142 hp stock?....pretty sure we only saw 137-138 hp on a stock 700 xcr motor...that was after a lot of tuning to. Gas in quebec can be pretty pathetic as the spec. of their unleaded regular additives can be fairly loose. What i'm trying to say is its difficult to make big hp numbers from a 700 bore yet run their regular pump gas. The big numbers are easily obtainable with good fuel. On another note htg has been known in years past to produce higher than the average dyno readings on a given motor.

True... Had to back it up on another dyno. Was within 10 hp, and air-temp and humidity can effect that much.

yep hm... my twin 700 is 155 horse power it has twin pipes, porting, head work, clucthing, timing and slp big air intake. a 700 xcr with the same stuff done two it would rape my twin the 700 xcr is a good sled that makes good horse power.
