Back in may I posted that my yard was a disaster after the winter( which it was).SpeeDwerx1000 came to the rescue with a seed /fertilizer mix that was supposed to work well up here in blow sand country,so I gave it a shot. Now I have another problem. This stuff came in so green and thick that my mower chokes on it! With all the rain weve had for the last 3 weeks,I cant mow it fast enough,no shit, every 3 - 4 days . He really knows his stuff,so if anyone needs help,he's the man! I would also like to point out that I used LESS than the amounts that he recommended. If I had done it like he said I could be bailing it by now!

Click to view attachmentThis pic doesnt do it justice because I just took it and its raining,so the "green" doesnt show as well. But, this is the same spot as whats in my avitar. The little bare spot on the left doesnt count,I broke a hyd hose there, and knew it wouldnt grow right.

Keep those blades as sharp as possible and mow on different tracks each time. Try not to let it grow too much between mowings. Cut no more than 1/3 of the grass blade each time. Mow it dry only. It is a biotch with all the rain, I know.
Good luck, there is hot dry weather coming and it will slow things down for you. There must be some annual grass in the mix, so next year will be a little less work.

Nope,no annual, mostly a fesque mix. There a bit more than an acre of it,all cut up with trees and rock garden,so by the time I cut it all in with the hand mower, then go back over it with the tractor, its the best part of a day.

You need a mix heavy in fescue...ours seems to be extra potent.
Quit buying junk from hardware stores and you'll save alot of $$ and it will actually grow.

Yea, it definitely makes a difference.
The fertilizer I gave you is 50% slow release (13-26-12)..it lasts for a while.
Once it is established we'll switch you over to 25-5-12 and you'll be all set.

Potash is the secret. 3 numbers on a bag of fertilizer are Nitrogen Potash and phosphate. Potash holds the mosture in something fierce. Kentucky blue /Rye /Fescue mix is the way to go. I have planted over 50 yards this year. No it your michigan red sand but in ohio yellow/gray sand and some black topsoil. First fert for a new yard is usually 19-19-19.

We do turn them out on it for 3 hrs or so a day, they dont even make a dent in it.Interestinly, they wont shit out there either, they will wait untill they are back in the paddock.Three hours of that rich , green grass is all thier system can handle in a day,or we would let them out more.

19-19-19 or 13-26-12 is what we recommend for a starter...19-19-19 is MDOT spec.
We also do custom mixes and can supply any seed you can imagine.

Damn!!!!
That is looking better than the lawn at my warehouse..lol.
The best part about that seed mix is that it'll stay green late in the year...you should be very happy with it. Let me know when you want some lawn food 25-5-15 fertilizer, we also sell weed and feed, crabgrass preventer, and ornamental fertilizers.
