If you are a member...
Two weeks ago, Sunday, March 20th around 4-5 pm, I was moving a really good clip in Pittsburg, NH on Rt 5s (I will give detail because I hope this person is a member). I and my buddy came up on the groomer with two other sleds. Both Polaris's. We were on Ski-doo's. The first sled was a Pro X ( 700?)with Blue, white, black colors. Rider had a open face motocross style helmet with the same colors. The groomer pulled over to let all of us past him. The two Polaris's pulled over to let us by. By the next 1/4 mile, I was doing around 50-70 mph on the straights and 30-40 in the turns. Next thing I see is the ProX headlight ONLY in my mirror. This means you were less than 2 feet from my F*CKING AS*. At those speeds, this behavior is absolutly unexceptible. You never backed off till I locked up my breaks because I missed my turn and you nearly missed me gave ME THE STAIR????

FU!. Next time, should our paths cross, I will put you into a TREE if not hunt you down and deck you. I was PISSSSED. My friend made me pull over to cool off and gather myself because I was damn mad. If I crash, it should be my fault, and my fualt only not some punk assh*le who is tries to pick races on trails.
My whole point here is it
does not matter who is faster than who, as long as you do not pull stunts like this f*cking moron did and remember. The tree always wins.
Should anyone know this person, put your boot up his ass for me. Thanks you.
Yes, I am still burning over this. I never let things go....

Just like the guys on the highway that like to ride my @ss during a whiteout blizzard......let them pass and laugh at them in the ditch a few miles later.
Yes he was wrong to be riding that way, but you were also wrong to not let him by.

Slower riders have the RIGHT OF WAY! simple. If he does not pull over, tough shit!. Most slower riders will let you pass but if I come up on a slow rider, then I stay back until they realise im there and then pass or ditch pass if the run is available...that means me in a ditch and them on the trail. no harm to anyone...even then if I ditch pass, I make sure they know Im there so they dont get a fright.....!
Dood, I would have him put out into the sticks too! Assholes that don't know how to ride! Good luck on finding him!

Definitely not proper respect for fellow sledders....although I can see the point made about slower riders pulling over although in this case I'm not sure if that really applies. I do think that if it was bothering you that he was on your a$$ you should have given him the right of way, if for nothing else, the safety of others on the trail.

Doo, you're right to be pissed if the guy waved you by only to engage you 1/4 mile down the trail...I'd be pissed too. If the guys was just cleaning his shield or something and then got back on the gas and you were holding him up, that's a different story. At the speeds you're talking about , 50-70, nobody should be tail gating you, again pissed. If you felt that he was going too fast and you were going to set his pace then maybe he should be pissed. You sound like a good guy and on most the trails I ride on, 50-70 is moving right along so the benefit of doubt is in order.

Thats happened to me before...we where all just kinda putzing along, I was only going about 40 or and there were some even slower riders with us and these 3 a$$es thought it would be fun to pass on my RIGHT and look back and give me the death stare. If I'd known they were behind me I would have happily pulled over, because I've been in the opposite situation, behind a group of touring sleds going-I kid you not- 10-15 MPH for a good five miles, fully aware we were behind them but refusing to pull over, then pulling over to the wrong side of the trail to stare us down as we idled by them. It depends on the situation, but in all cases some common consideration would prevent any issues like this.

yeah I used to ride with a DICK (key word is used to)that would passs people on the left all the time when we came up on them going slow and I would wait for these people to notice me and and wave me by,then when I would catch up to him he would say WTF why didnt you pass then, and I told him that he was a DICK for doing it because he scared the hell out of one woman rider that he flew by,and she was all over the trail-how do you know that that rider isnt experianced and it was her first time on a sled and she could have went into a tree????? and he was still a DICK about ti on the trail aftrewards so I stopped rideing with him, because people would look at me like I was a prick like him :frech32:

I am glad I have stird some responses here because the younger ones may read this. First, the speed limit in New Hampshire is 45 mph. I usually am close too it pending location but usually doing 50 mph but 90 mph is not common for me.
Second, the conditions were heavy snow with 2-3" ungroomed on the ground. My friend has the Rev 800 HO, which out corners my 800 MXZ hands down. There was too much snow dust from him to follow close in a SAFE manner. I run a 1.25" lug with 1.40" picks, I kick up even more snow dust then his 1.00". We usually ride a lot faster as it gets later. Do to the fact most riders stop at sun set.
Third, I was definitly not riding slow nor beyond my ability but may be too fast for the conditions since the corners had their share of moguls.
Fourth, When these guys past us, we were pulled over to let the groomer get much farther ahead. When we started we saw and heard them coming and decided to wait and let them by instead of being rude and pulling out in front of them. They were moving pretty fast. I followed them for 2 miles which they never could pull away from me but I rode 100-200 yards behind them. Its just not safe to follow closely no matter how good you can ride. Thats like saying my 4x4 can stop quicker than your car.....on ice. Like to see that one.
Fifth, How do I know he was young? Size, dress code, gear used. Go to a sled show or race, the majority of the young (25 and less) dress a lot different the most of us older guys. There is always that few exceptions.
Sixth, if he was faster, I would have pulled over, but riding that close is just wrong. I get stuck behind slow drivers all the time. That day had more than its share, but I never ride close but keep my high beam on so they know I am there. Eventually they will pull over and flag us to pass, but I will not pass unless they flag us too or pull of the trail. That my friends is the correct way to pass. This rule also applies to boating with either hand waving or the use of the horn which can signal a left side pass or right side pass.
Seventh...this anger managment class is not working. :banghead: :banghead:

Waiting to pass is the smart thing to do. I almost ran a guy into a tree because he decided to pass me. I had no idea he was there, and I was using a lot more of the trail than usual trying to avoid bumps. He apparently had started to pass me, when I moved over to the left to the smoother section of the trail, and I pushed him partly off the trail. Never even knew he was there, let alone coming up on my left side. I'm sure he gave me the death stare as he picked his way around me on the trail.
Granted, I had mirrors and he probably thought I was just rude and not letting him pass. However, the positioning of the mirros make them almost useless since I can ony see my arms reflections in them. He might have been there for a while and I just hadn't noticed. Then again, he very well could have just come up on men and decided to just blow by. He was moving at a good clip compared to me.
I always signal to pass as soon as I am aware of someone behind me and there is room for me to stay to the right.

I do pull over, but the time I saw him in my mirrors, got mad, I had to lock up my breaks because I had to make a left turn at the same time avoid my friend in front who also locked his break to start the left turn while all 3 of us where coming around the corner.
Sorry if I offended any young riders. It was not intended to discriminate against all young riders. I was just mad at the rider behind me and needed to get it off my chest. I was hoping he was a member. Again, Sorry.

I usually don't whine about people passing me because it doesn't happen very often, but on the last ride of the year on Detroit Lakes, a group of 5 sleds went flying by me doing atleast 80 when I was with my grandpa. Since I was with my grandpa we were only going about 30. Not only did they race by us, but one of the guys was no more then 10 feet away. They were going fast enough all I heard was the sound of the Liberty for half a second. Enough to make me almost crap my pants.
Come on guys it's a lake, plenty of room

I understand being angry at some one who pulls a move like that but does it justify what you feel is a appropriate response by putting him in the trees?Get over it and educate. How would you truly feel if he was hurt or worse by your response to his actions.Wouldn't make you any better than him. This trail rage b.s. is getting out of hand.Grow up and ride defensively.

What I don't get is the need to pass someone doing 70 mph on a trail, What, are you late for work? Save it for the lake. Guys who do this haven't crashed a sled yet or lost a few brain cells when they did.

I was riding up in twin mountain slnowmobile trails and i was comming up over a hill and i saw this truck on the trail so the dude started swearing so i looked at him and said fu as* hole so i called the trail owner and he said that someboady was grooming the trails and if any body has been on them they are really hilly so, he came across 2 sleds at like 10 at night an he was going the same way as they were and he was at the bottem of a hill. the two sleds were moving so dam* fast up this hill they left the ground and the didnt come down on the other side for like 100 ft.
So Please go slow at night and day.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. The trails were pretty beat up as it was the end of the season...it was our last day out and our daughters wanted to come with us. They're 9 and 11....so we go slower than usual while travelling with them on back.
There was a lot of holes/bumps etc. and you had to be pretty careful that day...not many other sledders out at all.
Anyway...I'm driving along with the youngest on back and this moron comes out of nowhere as I'm heading into a turn that's fairly narrow and blows past us, nearly running me into a tree as well as completely covering us in wet slushy snow from a puddle. I was not amused...I'm sure he'd have been pissed off it it was him and one of his kids. My husband wanted to follow the guy and beat the crap out of him. Grrr!
Oh...and I should mention that before going into the turn I'd been looking behind me regularly to make sure I wasn't holding anyone up as I know how frustrating it can be to be behind someone going slower. He just had no respect.
Annnnnnnd....he wasn't a young person either...hope he's reading this. It was near Adair's in NB, Canada. Hope to see you next year when I'm riding without a passenger...moron!
