Full Version: exhaust melting bellypan

i have a 1998 xc 600 liquid cooled and i can ride for about 30 mins and my exhaust gets so hot it starts too melt the belly pan and i have all the heat shields in place...and my can gets cherry red.. if anyone had this problem could u let me no cuz i have no clue on wats goin on cuz i looked in the can and it looks like everything is still in it.... if u could PLZ help me out...

Check the position of the e clip on the jet needle. If these sleds are adjusted lean they will turn the muffler cherry red on a cold day.

but i dont have mikuni's i got kehne's....

You mentioned that you had all the shields in place. Does the include the one Polaris supplied as part of a recall? (I had a '98.)

If you do a Google search, I bet you'd find the information.

I got a letter at home from Polaris (many years ago) letting me know that I should have a new shield installed because some belly pans were melting. Mountain riders in particular were having problems.

i looked inside of the can and its not plugged er anything...

if you got a stock can take it out and shake it if theres a rattle then its junk find a new one
mine did the same thing on my 97 700 bought a slp can and its all good

how much did the slp can cost??? and i dont think anthing was movin around inside of the can...

like 150 i think my buddy got it new from slp's scrach&dent sale

theres a plate inside and on mine it cracked or broke and thats when it started
melting the belly pan so i got a slp can and new belly pan its fine now

btw changeing a bellypan sucks
