Full Version: windshield and mirrors on an IQ

I just bought an 07 IQ, and want to put the tall windshield on it. I do a lot of lake riding, and need all the wind protection I can get. I also wanted to have mirrors, but the only option that looks good are the ones mounted to the hand guards. Polaris says their guards will only fit on the fly or short windshield (they don't make them with mirrors anyway), but that makes me think that others won't fit with the tall windshield either. Has anyone gone through this and figured out a set up that they like? Thanks for the help!

Hanguards I think hit the tall w/s. I have the med which works OK. But use the small no w/s for march april riding. Mirrors look awful on an IQ. Use a wrist mirror they work great.

This sled has rider select handlebars, right? If yes, I would think the answer to this question will depend very heavily on what position you have the handlebars in. Shove them all the way forward, and I bet just about any handguard would hit even the medium or low windshield. But if you keep the bars raked back for a sitting position most of the time because you're a lake/trail rider, then there may be no interference at all with any windshield.

Just my speculation. My sled has fixed post (no rider-select), stock 5.25" riser, bars set so the riser points almost straight up but very slightly toward the driver, Polaris medium shield, and sometimes soft Skinz trail series handguards only on cold days. With that setup, the soft handguards hit the windshield a little bit at full turn. But my setup is far different from yours, so this info is likely of little value in your specific case.

Wrist mirror is my vote. You do get use to mirrors once you have a sled with them on.

I have rider select and what I did is if I have a tall windshield add a 3.75 riser (powermadd only fits the rider select, polaris doesn't offer one, I found out the hard way.) So you can set the rider select back to 1 or 2 setting and it is still comfy and doesn't hit the windshield. Most of the time I have a low windshield and dont have to worry about any postion I put it in.

thanks for the responses. Craze1cars, the 07 IQ does not have the rider select, so I won't be able to pull them back. Even tho a lot of my riding is on the lake, I'm still on the trails a fair amount and want to be able to use all this sled has. At this point I'm planning on using the stock riser, which is pretty tall. I definitely agree that the mirrors that mount on the hood or handle bars don't look good, that was why I was leaning towards the ones that are part of the hand guards. The wrist mirrors may work OK. Also hadn't thought about using a shorter windshield for spring. I'm pretty well set on needing the taller windshield for the cold months, and since I haven't had a chance to ride the sled yet, am not totally sure that even the tall one will offer much protection. Seems as tho my buddys' sled (not an IQ)with the short windshield is like riding in a wind tunnel with a full blast in the face. Doesn't bother me too much on the trails, but cruising at 60+ in below zero on the lake, and man, it's cold! Thanks again, more input welcome!

I have an '07 IQ and do a fair amount of cold weather riding. I installed the mid height windshield and was amazed at the improved wind protection both on my upper body and on my hands. The taller model might be even better but I was concerned that it just looked too big on the sled. My experience is that the mid height windshield is all that I need.

I also purchased the IQ mirror kit that is supposed to mount on the sides of the hood. I agree that they just don't look right and as a result they are still in the box and never made it to the sled. I miss having mirrors but I'm not sure how long they would last on the side of the hood as they look quite vulnerable to passing branches or when installing the cover, etc. I'm waiting until I see a better solution.

PowerMadd handguards with the mirror extentions are the best solution for mirrors, IMHO, the PowerMadd handguards look a lot better than the cheesey old style Polaris ones (unless you are going for the big-eared elephant look!). The new style Polaris handguards (like the ones on the Dragon) look pretty good, they look like they might be made by PowerMadd, I'm going to try and fit a PowerMadd mirror kit to them when my sled arrives.

The PM mirrors work great and look good (you really don't notice them)...had them on my 06, they will be going on the 09 and my wife's new Shift.

Exactly my thoughts and i want to try them with a mid-height windshield.
A buddy tried the mirrors on his PM handguards this winter and loved them. Perfect location and dont have to remove your hand from the bar to look back.

Bison716, where you ride is a lot colder than here in Wisconsin! If you say the mid is warm enough, I'm listening! I was also thinking the tall windshield might not look too good, but if the alternative was freezing my buns off.....well, sounds like the mid has worked for you. I also liked the PM guards and mirrors, the guy I bought the sled from was running them and really liked them (he liked them so much he kept them for his next sled!), but he was running the short windshield. Will the PMs work with the mid windshield?

i bought the luxury kit which had mirrors and a windshield bag for my 07 dragon and they work and look great--still use stock windshield at -10 to -15,, much colder and i stay inside

I don't know if the PM guards will touch the windshield or not, but like you, I am paying attention to the responses. Hopefully someone has tried this combination and will post a report. I'd like to try the PM guards too.
