Was looking for a part number for a clutch bolt for my 98 700 xc twin. Going off the on-line parts list, low and behold its the same bolt as my 98 xcr 440. Have several spares.

Digging deeper in the parts list ( I compared part numbers for the entire manifest between the 700 and the 440 line by line I find the only differences are the weights and spring.

Is there something I am missing here? The reason I ask is that have been looking for a primary clutch for my 700 for awhile. Have two very nice 98 xcr 440 primary clutches laying on the bench. Thinking I can just swap in some 60 weights and a dark blue spring (or whatever), and be good to go.

Correct?

Thanks in advance. Pilot

yea that should be fine i had heard rumors of the bb motors having a bigger bushing but im running a 06 440 clutch on my 98 700 motor and its held up great so far the p-85 has had the same taper for some 15 years or something so u can get away with running just about any p-85 just might have to rebuild more often

the big bushing clutch did not come out until 2000 and only on the RMK800. for '98, they were all the same clutch on the liquids. the only difference was the weight/spring combos. the '98 liquids should have the wide rollers and new weight pin location from centerline. the crank taper is the same. the only thing i would do is measure the internal bore where the retaining bolt goes thru and make sure they are the same. the newer clutches have a different bore size for the newer puller. since they are both '98 liquids, slap in the weights and spring and don't worry about it, it'll be fine.
