Was on the Polaris website for the 1st time in ages & noticed it was revamped since my last visit...................go to the sled section & look up the 600/800 Dragon specs & low & behold they are showing the P2 as the secondary................Wouldn't you think Polaris would have updated their specs with the new look web page if we weren't getting the new P2 ? Any comments ?
craze1cars
Yeah, you would think. Seeing as how on March 17 Polaris Industries came out here and announced the P2 would not be offered on most of the lineup. Yet their website hasn't been updated with this "fact" nearly 3 months later. So at what point do they become guilty of false and misleading advertising? Or maybe the mystery guy who was posting on the Polaris blog was providing us with false information?

Polaris's right hand again doesn't know what the left hand is doing, and their customers are left with unanswered questions.

My sled is fairly decent, but Polaris as a company simply does not impress me.

Nobody will know exactly what equipment will show up until their sled is actually delivered. However, I think it would be safe to speculate that the P2 is likely "not ready for prime time". As far as "false advertising", you forget the disclaimer Polaris has about "Reserving the right to change model specifications without incurring obligation" or whatever legalese they choose to print in their brochures. Chances are the website carries the same disclaimer in fine print somewhere.

More concerned on the -15HP , than the P2 at this point

All true. It must be nice for them to have disclaimers like that to lean on. Someone else here recently asked about their new 550 Shift and whether it would get the new tubular metal bumper or not...and the website right now is totally vague on that as well, showing gallery pictures of 550 Shifts with both new and old bumper, yet not mentioning the new bumper in the spec sheet. Yet according to some here, dealer paperwork reportedly shows they indeed will get the new bumper. Polaris might as well advertise that all their engines will be direct injected and turbocharged as well, since it will really help out sales. Even when they know full well they won't actually have those features because "we reserve the right to change..." That probably wouldn't be false advertising either...because they had the foresight to add the appropriate fine print. But realistically, it's not like I or anyone else is going to try to sue them over it...and I'm not buying a 2009 sled anyway so I really don't give a crap if the P2 is there or not.

But when I'm shopping all 4 brands when I decide to buy again, I'll remember how honest Polaris advertising has been for 2009 models, and I will remember their vague, wishy-washy, erroneous and seemingly deceptive ways. Most of these sleds we discuss are likely going into production as we speak. If they're not actually running down the assembly line, then I'd bet they definitely have their final decisions made on 98% of this stuff. So for them to STILL be providing inaccurate and vague info is inexcusable in my book. Go ahead and flame away...just stating my opinion on the whole matter.

Then again, I may be entirely misguided. To their credit, my 08 Dragon Switch came spec'd exactly as they advertised when I spring ordered it, and their literature and website didn't misguide me in what I ordered at all. So is it possible they changed their minds since March 17 and now all sleds will indeed be getting P2's as they are still being advertised? If so, then I'll gladly eat crow.
TheBat
just another reason to avoid the hype of the spring order snow check programs. Hold your money, wait until the sleds hit the showroom floor (and the snow hits the ground) and see what you are actually getting. The way sales have gone the last few years, it's pretty likely that you will find whatever you are looking for on your own timetable, it's not like the old days when popular models sold out early.

I'm not one to try to find fault in everything Polaris does. It is not an easy industry to be in in the first place and it certainly doesn't help when their customers pick away at the small stuff. You're asking them to carve in stone exactly what will be built in months to come without giving them the freedom to improve the product if the opportunity arises. Sorry, I don't agree with that. They are forced to put disclaimers on everthing because of this type of attitude. I prefer a company to be flexible enough to react to the most recent opportunity afforded them prior to and during assembly. I cannot afford the cost of a perfect product and neither can most.

I am not buying the 09 sled but I can say this. You sure in the hell dont want to start blowing belts over 2-3mph. This new P2 gives more top mph but if you blow a belt doing 117mph after 250miles you wont be to happy. I would be more happy with 112mph and 2000miles on a belt.

Well the way I look at that is, don't advertise this new P2 clutch that is going to be great and not use it.
That is crap.
This will not make me cancel my order for the D8 sp, but it is bull chit advertising.
I think Polaris should not play that game because today's economy suck's, customers will get pissed off with false advertising because there watching there money more closely and Polaris has lost a huge market share.

???? No I'm not. I'd be all in favor of them actually improving their product beyond what they've advertised. I'm actually asking them to do the exact opposite of what you've just written.

I'm asking them to stop advertising this great product improvement for all 2009 models (P2), when they've already fully admitted to HCS and multiple magazines that they have no intention of offering this improvement at all on the majority of their lineup.

great point, but according to reliable and accurate dyno sources/centers it's also down 15HP

again it's early, there's time for Polaris to get their crap together with this model, but that same crap will hit the fan if 3000 800 SP owners get stuck with mutts come Nov/Dec

might figure, the first time in 15 yrs we give them a shot again and now 'this'

Just remember, the Polaris rep put right out here in text on HCS , the fall sleds would come with advertised 154HP

keep that post for your refund check L!

Yea I read about the D8 having 15 hp less.
But I will not get all bent out of shape untill the production sled's are out.
If the D8 does have 15 hp less this comming November, then I will guaranty I will never buy another Polaris product ever again.

There might be 1 legitimate question among 100 that are complete crap. Sad and disappointing actually.

IMO - they added some value to the snowcheck discussion and provided up to date info on the clutch and shock packages etc so guys knew what they would be getting.

BTW - I sent you a PM a looooong time ago asking a legitimate question and hoping you would elaborate on what you found on the dyno. Never got a response.

So - I will ask that legitimate question again.

Please help your fellow Polarii brethern out. What is the tech info we all need to get the new 800 HO to make maximum power? Help make all the 800 HOs all that they can be.
Albert Johnson
I think we all hoped that their presence here would add value to the discussions and provide up to date info beyond snow check season. Unfortunately, he only seemed interested in adding hype to the snow check program.

RR, there are pages on here and other sites (DTR) that have all the info even a rookie tuner should need to help the 09 800 make maximum power. Who wants to add more on this site? It is over run with crazed cheerleaders. Sadly, to offer tech info on here for the 09 800, is to suggest it needs help, which for some reason is considered blasphemy on this forum.

Item 5 on the feature bar. "P2 the latest in Legenday Polaris clutching, the new P2 (Polaris Performance) delivers liteweight performance, improved backshift, and increased overwind for improved top speed".

So the sled is going to heavier, slower, less backshift, and be supplied with an aftermarket team clutch. Overwind this Polaris Industries! Figure it out and get it on my sled by 11/08. OK!

I do not buy the excuses as to why Polaris did the bait and switch, so it is still chicken shit. I am moving on now, long live the Team!
shortstop20
After they announced they would be putting the P2 clutch on(when the 2009's debuted online) they thought they would still get enough testing in on snow to finalize the clutch setup with the P2 secondary. They didn't so they decided to stick with the Team for another year. Every clutch uses different springs and helixes, not to mention the different motor and track sizes. It's not like you can use the same helix angles and spring rates that they used on the Team, throw them in the P2 clutch and expect them to perform the same.

I agree they need to take the advertisement of the P2 off the website and have the dealers tell people they're not getting the P2 but everyone would be even more mad if their sled came with a shitty clutch setup. Was the P2 clutch the deal breaker whether you snow checked a new sled or not? I doubt it. 90% of riders won't even realize it comes with a different clutch because they don't know the difference.

Koodat
Alright, one more. Do you think anyone ponying up over $10K for "the" top of the line Polaris is some scatterbrain who does not even know where the secondary is? You live in So. Dakota. You mean to tell me the #2 manufacturer in the world cannot find enough snow to test there clutchs? What was that I saw in the magazine about all the testing in Greenland because they always have snow. Thought that was a Snotech article from last year. They gave up for lack of snow? You need a better excuse than that.

I am not sure on the 475lb. thing and the de-rated motor. That will have to wait until I receive the sled. Hey, who in the heck would "not" want the latest and greatest clutching from Polaris? Not the sping order folks I guess. If the team is the best, why the heck did they spout off about a P2? Not to pick a fight or anything. Now I am done.
Gen2
Because we are all hoping the P2 is the answer for why a lot of sleds hit that "wall" at 90 and struggle to go any faster. And I feel they gave us the impression it would cure that in their advertising. Hell, I use a Brannick strut spring compressor to change the springs in my team clutches . Sure, great backshift and great throttle response on the trails, but I'll give up some of that to wrap the speedo past 100 more easily.

I'm sure someone will have the P2 on a 800 as soon as they are available through the parts dept. Then we'll all know if it works.

I guarantee you there's plenty of people out there buying these machines that don't even know what a secondary is. If you call it the "back clutch" they might/probably will know. Most sledder's out there don't know or don't care about clutching their sleds.

That is Polaris' excuse, not mine. They said themselves that they did not get enough riding time in to get the clutching with the P2 where they wanted it to be because of snow conditions. I could care less.
