I am thinking about changing my car over from nighthawk black to a pearl white, so because it is a tri-coat colour and not easy to paint from what im told im looking for a reputable paint shop in ontario preferably GTA, or southern ontario that would be capable of painting my car, professionals only please. If im going to do it, im going to get it done right the first time.

Thanks,
Quad18star
A guy in NorthBay painted my dad's '69 Cuda and did an amazing job and didn't charge an arm and a leg. I'll try and find his phone number for you.

Vette Works of Canada in Port Perry is very good....not cheap but has a ton of experience with pearls in paint jobs. PM me if you're interested...I know it's a bit out of the way for you but I know Ernie very well and his work is 2nd to none!

my first advice is don't do it! that is a huge $$$$ job. what do you plan in the engine compartment? No matter who does it, it's a big job. doors, jambs, inside decklid. what kind of car?

he is right ! to do it right you could buy a lot of srx go fast parts! or a used turbo sled (in the US)

There's a place on Hwy 24 between Guelph and Cambridge called the Bodyworks. Been there forever and these guys do perfect work. Not cheap though, expect to pay thousands for a job like that.

Thanks ill shoot you a PM, ideally i want a shop that does alot of custom and classic cars to do it, not some run of the mill body shop and experience with pearls is a huge plus.

Im still on the fence about it, its either put the $ into my car, or save then next summer upgrade to a 2006 S2000, 2006 Sti, 2005 350z or a 2004 SVT Cobra.

But i know its not cheap im planning on $4000, the engine i want the inner fenders done but not the firewall, its a black car so the firewall wont be too bad if it remains black. But all doors, and jambs all need to be done.

This is the car:

Just drive the damn POS insead of spending $4K on a paint job! That's a lot of BJ's! LOL!

Can't trust a body man as far as you can throw them....
700Saber
to each his own...but i would never spend that much coosh on a prelude...especially since it loooks good as is
Culprit
$4k is probably a good start. I would not do it, car looks good. save for an upgrade. if you spend the money on painting it white it is not going to raise the value of the vehicle....

Sweet paint is very, very expensive.

The original quote for my 69 which is rust free top to bottom and as clean and detailed underneath as a new car was over 11,000. This car needed no body work as it is in paint already but I wanted to change the colour. This was for strip, straighten and re-paint top side only including jambs, bottom of hood and trunk. No disassembly or re-assembly of trim included. Any body repair or dent removal was extra. The final estimate is not given until the car is bare steel and they can see everything that may be hiding under neath such as previous dent repairs. At that point you can accept the revised quote or part with 2500 and take the car home stripped and in primer.

The bulk of the cost comes from the straightening.

No offense meant, but given the value of the car I would look for a shop that is good and reasonable and stay away from the perfect paint. A very nice re-paint will run around 5K. It will not be that wicked, foot deep, straight as an arrow 11K job but it will be nicer than most and not screw you over from an insurance perspective. Remember the first chip, minor nick and your money is down the toilet. The insurance companies do not like to insure custom or high dollar paint without an appraisal and in the case of a prelude it would not be valued high enough to justify the coverage especially if it is driven on a regular basis. You may not be able to fix it if something happens.

If you do want to proceed with a perfect paint job there is a local guy with many magazine feature cars to his credit. He is a great fella but comes with a price tag.

My advice, spend your money on the handling and motor and give it a nice paint that will not torture you to own. If you go to the beach even sand from the wind will damage your car. A towel tossed on the hood, bare feet dragged across the rockers, or arms out the window with a bracelet or watch. It happens. Perfect paint on a car you drive is a curse like no other and takes the fun out of driving it.

clap.gif thumbsup.png ...now that's a car......IMHO..if you're thinking about getting a different ride..don't put any more coin inot yours...you won't get it back, and if you're thinking COBRA..you're going to want the extra cash for new tires every month !

One of my favorite cars. Wicked stock but so much untapped potential in that mill! Upgrade the huffer and look out.

I've been thinking my self of getting out of the vintage stuff and into a newer stang. Something about going fast but also being able to turn and stop appeals to me LOL!

Well i have 100k on the car, so its retail is pretty high i would not venture far to get $12-13k for it tommorow. But your right the more i think the more im on the fence, now that ive owned a black car i realise the true upkeep and sensitivity of paint, people say those california dusters dont scratch, bullshit they leave really really small swirls all over your paint and in perfect sun they stick oput to a good eye pretty easy. Another reason i want white is its alot easier to hide any flaws, black is either perfect or shit.

After saving this summer and next by next summer my budget would be around 22-27k for a upgrade, so thats kind of the range im looking at for cars.

Exactly my dilemma i like my car now, so im not hellbent on modding it slightly, so the question is do i go all out on this as in paint this year turbo and built motor next, or do i save for that almighty 4.6L screwed cobra....
thundercat900
when I was 19 I remember getting a quote on my 5.0 GT and it was was insane, I can only imagine what a cobra would be like.....so instead I blew a lot of coin doing up a dakota(slammed, 20s, huge stereo, body kit, you name it) and let me tell you rolling stock is the worst investment you can make! I love the lude especially in black.....so id keep it that way and save the coin IMO

Awesome car shadow, my uncles boss has a black 04 he has had since new, has all the fun stuff, pulley upgrade, exhaust, chipped. He actually traded it in on his current bueaty a brand new Roush Stage3 car, then missed the cobra so bought it back from the dealership before they sold it. He has asked my uncle a couple times if i wanted it, so id definately look at that when it comes to cobra only thing is i love imports for gas. When you need performance there right on it, well not a cobras leaque but still a rush and then everyday they still get good gas milage

Ha ha ha...i'm still laughing about the "good gas mileage" that Cobras are known for. i have a '04 STi and it gets terrible mileage so is the way to correct that double the displacment and double the cylinders?
the reality is this- if you are even considering upgrading next year than dont paint your car. you will NEVER get return on your investment. not bashing but as reliable, economical and practical hondas are, they are like a*sholes-everyone has one. the auto trader is full of them and people avoid repainted cars like the plague. save your money, take your time to decide which car you really want and can afford (the choices you listed are vastly different cars). besides, if you buy the stang, you'll have to get a Woodbridge address

Theres no hiding the cobra would suck for gas, but yeah for the most part hondas are very common preludes are pretty scarce though as they stopped production in 2001, also s2000s are even less seen. The cars all have the same basic premise, all are nice looking cars, the s2k is a 50/50 split car, and the Sti AWD so both very twisty friendly cars, while the Cobra, 350z are both more straight orientated cars, while the TL Type-S is more a all around driver car. I still dont have my mind made up but if i do paint the car im keeping it, i would never waste money on paint then sell it. All or nothing basically
Roost 'Er
Alright so now im 100% paiting it, as far as quotes ive gotten two so far at $4000 and $4200, so im thinking the magic number is gonna be $4k, just gotta decide where now.
