I'm trying to decide what kind of sled to get and I'm coming from a switchback with a 144x1.5 studded track and I am wondering what you guys think I will like better. On one hand i could buy a crossfire and get it extended to a 144 with maybe a 1.5 or 2 inch lug. but the other hand should I just buy an M sled 144 and maybe put a 1.5 on it (don't even know if they make one). my riding is some aggressive trail riding like 30% but mostly playing in meadows and hills with some powder on them. I really like my switchback and the versatility it offers but i am just fed up with the local Polaris dealer. also my switch is for sale if anybody is interested pm me also listed on hcs. thanks in advance.

just get the 141 crossfire and throw a 1.5" or 1.75 on it... i have put many trail/offtrail powder riding on my 136 crossfire and have also been to the mountains with it and if you know how to ride you can hold your own pretty damn well.. the xfire is a all around machine... i rode with my buddies m8 at home and in the mountains... and i kill him on the trails, lakes, and flats and am not too far back in the mountains...he just climbed better because of the gearing..Xfire for the win

I have a 06 m7 141 and I am from Fargo. I ride both the trails here and out in the mountains. I ride with 3 crossfires and a loyal polaris guy with a switchback for both him and his wife. They are all very good sleds but my preference is the m 141. It is great in the mountains and I was very supprised how well it does around here it is alot like riding my f7 around here. You can leave the 2 1/4 inch track on and just switch weights and helix for the mountains. It makes a quick switch over. I have never had overheating problems with the 2 1/4 inch challenger even on hard pack snow. Everyone will favor the sled they are riding but I just purchased an 08 m8 because I was so happy with my m7 and I rode my freinds crossfires as well. They are both good sleds so I do not think you can go wrong. I am selling my m7 this fall if interested or you have any questions about either sled you can call me at 701-492-9116.

Good luck

Either one is a nice sled. I like the M due to the narrow stance and no sway bar, lower gears. Easy to throw around. I ran a 1.5 lug 141 attack 20 and it worked really good on the trails. My buddy has a 144 Crossfire and also loves it.

Maybe the 141 is different, but my 05 M7 162 is not enjoyable on whooped out trail. Everywhere else, I love it.

I have tried all of them and now I am in for a new 141 X-Fire cause I believe this to be the best all round combination of snowmobile there is, confused as to why Cat has not done the longer track Cross fire until this year.
As per the other posts it's all about the rider but in the trails and back country meadows and lower elevations having a more diverse platform makes for better riding at the end of the day. M series are great sleds but I find it is just not great on trails or low snow runs.
Cross Fire is the ideal all round sled.

I wouldn't trade my M for anything... Sure it may struggle a little bit in the real tight trails, but IMO is a riot on the trails. Not to often can to have a "awesome" trail sled, that will climb from 6000 to 10000 feet without skipping a beat, but my M is just that.

I also had a great time on the trails when we were on them this year.

No complaints from the trail manners on my M6 141"

thanks for all the responses I went ahead and bought a xfire that had already been stretched to 144x2 and I'm sure I'll love it. now for my next question what mods should be done to this thing its an 06 600. its basically stock except for a different helix just want to know what you can't live without on these sleds. more responses would be great
