Just looking for some opinions on which clutch adj. clutch weights you guys are running. Pros/cons of each. These will be run in an 04' 900 and am looking for a weight that offers a wide range of adjustment. Even the names of some of the brands available would help me research more on here. so far i've come up with heavy hitters, cutlers, and the supertips. What do you guys think?

Ive had good luck with the Thunder shift kit on my 99 zr 600. From Fett Bros. in Mn. Depending on the size off the motor will dictate Thunder shift or Heavy Hitters.

Most of the 900 guys are pulling 85-87g weights. I'd like to go with around a 73g base weight and add the weight in the right areas to get up to 85. So would that be the heavy hitters? What is the diff between the thunders and the heavy hitters??? range of base weights?

If you are setting up for a zr 900 you will need heavy hitters. The thunders had a base weight lower around 39g. maybe a tad more. If I remember correctly. My Zr 800 had Heavy Hitters. If you decide too go with heavy hitters I have a set I would sell. I bougt a set that I thought were Thunders but they were Heavy Hitters and the base weight was too high.

what is the base weight on your heavy hitter set? I'd be interested in them. I was on fett bros. site and put in my sled and they recommended 73's for the base. The way I understand it, you can add a jag of weight to those things. Not sure how many grams.

Dalton has adj set screw weights,,I have a set but they would be light for your sled,,(68 base-74total) I found they were light on the tips and removed them back to stock cat weights...R2R

Mine dont use the set screw. You will like what you get once its dialed in. Fett Bros. are helpful. Good luck.

From what I've searched/read, the daltons and the heavy hitters can be adjusted with the weights in the clutch. The difference being that the hitters can have around 17g added to them and the daltons around 8g. Plus the hitters have 3 threaded holes for bolts/washers and the daltons have a continuous thread through the length of the weight. Is this correct? To me the hitters seem like the way to go. Any tips/info that i'm missing on the differences between the two. And does anyone viewing have a set they would be interested in parting with? Like I said, I need to end up at 85g for my 900

Your Info on the Daltons is correct,, only problem I see with the Daltons is if you need weight on the tip they are to light and messes with the engagement,, then spring changes are required,, this is what I was after and scraped them because I was going to have to redo my whole clutch setup and was not worth it to make no real gains IMO,, the 3 holes may be better in certain ways because you can controll the amount of weight and were you want it,, adding to the Daltons is harder to controll because it runs the length of the weight and changes were you need it if you need only in a certain place,, m2c.gif R2R

I have both Daltons and Heavy Hitters and ended up using the Heavy Hitters. Like others have mentioned you just can't seem to load the tip enought on the Daltons. The one thing I don't like about the Heavy Hitters is that you have to pull them out to make the adjustments to the bolts. They have a wider shoulder too and you need to make sure you have them shimmed dead on in the center of the roller or they will rub on the spider once things start to naturaly wear.

Good luck. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions. I'm not far from Fett Brothers and both Dale and Dennis are good to deal with.
Racer X # 9
I am currently using STM supertips x profile, very similar shift curve to the culter mag weights, these have been excellent for tuning on the strip this year, very happy with the peformance. I am not using in a ZR900 however, so I can't comment there but the tunability (sp?) has been awesome. The only thing I wish for is some other tungstons to be in a 5 gram and 6 gram options. I will have some exta washers cut to make some customs. But over all I am very happy with the X weights performance. This is used in racing and no engagement notch required. Keep in mind that shimming the spider can make dramatic differences in performance. We are also experimenting with a latch arm STM weight (experimental part) along with a cat clutch and TRA skidoo primary springs. Will advise on how testing goes once we have a chance to get some passes on the set up.
