That is not a good idea at all haha. It will take for ever to put it together and find parts. Good luck with that idea though

dude, you're seriously just wasting your time. you ever price out all the parts in the parts fiche? if you did, AND you happen to buy all those parts brand new...you'll be paying almost double the price of a new 440. even if you tried to buy used parts, you won't even find everything/little part you need and with be sitting with a half-assed sled in your garage. besides, if you built it from the ground up...you may as well throw a trail motor in the thing anyways.

ur dad isnt very smart then u might as well get a vintage 440!! find a a complete 440 and tell the ol man to get bent and buy it, tell him its the deal of the century!!!

Great point. and about the motor why would I put a trail one in and not jsut a 440 Trail converted?

Uhhggg yeah, a vintage 440 is the exact same as a IQ 440, exactly.

1) trail motors get better gas mileage
2) trail motors get better top end
3) trail motors are less finicky

don't get me wrong, 440 engines are fun as hell, especially when dialed in. however, even when trail converted, you're only gonna be pulling in around 10-12 mpg and they'll top out around 70 mph...with stock gearing, etc.

do you know how to take apart a set of carbs to change your jets?

i'm also going on the assumption that you've never ridden a 440 before, let alone seen one in person, and only want a 440 to be "cool"

No, I just wanted the 440, because I thought it would be easyer to get because everyone is getting rid of them. I am really not a guy to want a really powerful motor like a 600, I dont go fast really, im maily in the bush fucking around, speed isnt nesecery. I cannot go across a lake without trying to cut off to find open water or getting of the lake to go through the bush.

Im going to send you a quick PM snocrosser.

imo 440's arnt cool but a 600-7-800 is pretty sweet in a 440 chassis.

The purpose of me building it is to not be cool really, its more for the experiance. Let alone I love the IQ

I bought a 440 that needed a little TLC last year, but was complete. IMO tear one down to the tunnel and rebuild, at least you're starting with the thing in a known working state. You'll learn a ton, and based on some of the prices that are out there you save a bunch too.

Have fun. and if you want parts, I've got a never raced 440 complete, with pipe, clutches CDI, everything, plus a pile of other stuff.
