I hear a lot of guys talking about "gutting" their airbox to increase performance and get better airflow. What exactly do you do to the airbox, and what are the benefits/drawbacks of doing this?
Would this be something worth doing on a stock 700 big block, or does anyone make a high-flow air box conversion for this motor in an EDGE chassis?
Thanks for all the help guys!

Just found this on www.sledparts.com.... wondering if it works. Pretty cheap.
High Flow Air Horn Intake Kit
For 2000-05 Edge Models. The SLP high flow air horn converts the top of your airbox to increase intake air velocity. This kit delivers more available air volume into the airbox improving atomization efficiency of fuel in turn improving throttle response and providing an additional 3 hp peak. Good improvement for stock sleds, mandatory for modified ones. SLP recommends using Flow-Rite™ Intake Filters in conjuction with the Air Horn kit

if your carbs are vented to the airbox. you will need to go down a couple of sizes on the main jet to make any difference because it will run richer. if the carbs are not vented to air box install and go. it makes a little difference. not going to notice it at the seat of your pants at all. what else have you done to the sled

motor is completely stock... there is a clutch kit in it however i honestly don't know what the specifics are to it (was already installed when i bought the sled and i haven't taken the clutches apart)... and a 121" 1.5" paddle track. Thats it.

I tried the slp air horn kit in an 03 edge...rejetted down to get good plug readings....saw no difference in performance over oem. Fuel economy under normal cruising gets worse than the oem setup to. I definetly wouldn't recommend it on a stock 600 motor..... maybe some gains with a bigger motor.

On a stock sled, the gains would be neglible IMO, more to gain on a modded sled. If you want to spend money on the sled, I'd suggest getting all 4 shocks rebuilt if its not done recently, it will be a very noticeable improvement.
As for the clutch kit, whats the colors of the springs, and see if there's any markings on the weights and helix. Then the guys here can i.d the components and make suggestions if anything needs changing.

Actually the edge air box's are pretty good compared to pre Edge box's.. Leave it alone. You won't get any gains, just a little more carb noise.

I won't touch it, thanks once again guys!

Just talked to the Dealer where the previous owner of my sled installed the clutch kit. Here's what he said:
Weights: 10-62's
Primary spring: Purple
Secondary Spring: Yellow
Helix: 56-38
Can anyone comment on this set up. I have no complaints with it, but if there is something better I'd like to know. Ideally, I want a set up for maximum acceleration where I can still hit 100 mph top end.
Thanks!

Sounds like it could be EPI components, also sounds like an agressive clutch setup.
What rpm does it engage at? I'd guess at 4500 or more? And what is top rpm when accelerating?

If I remember right, it engages @ about 4300 RPM and max RPM is 7900.

Could also be the primary spring is a Goodwin, 140-360. pretty good spring.

You might be right, the only purple primary spring I could find was that. Couldn't find any yellow secondary springs though....

EPI has a yellow secondary, PDS-3 , 46-71

Could be a Cat Yellow 2ndary spring

Anyone have any suggestions on my clutch setup...? I'd like to have max accel. but still be able to hit 100 on top end. If you guys have any suggestions on parts I should change I'd love to hear 'em!

Non ves motor correct?
That is correct non-VES. The only other thing I've done to it is put a 1.5" paddle track on.
