Due to the recent forest fire in Sandilands that was caused directly by humans, please please be careful out in the bush. Today it hit close to home as when I got to the cabin I went to the lodge to get some stuff and was told there was a fire 4 miles from my place. For some they might not care but the fire near my place was caused by treeplanters driving quads near an old snow cache. There quads started a fire in the dry tall grass. Some may not care because they dont have a cabin or home here. Sorry but I do not wish to rebuild from careless campers, etc... I havent heard if cabins or homes were lost yet in Sandilands, and I wish they dont.

Please be careful, and if possible dont start a fire unless its in an approved firepit. If wouldnt be worried if say the fire was way in the corner where its not near any cabins or homes but when its that close, its kinda scary. Luckly firetach and the water bombers were out fast, and got it undercontrol and i believe it may be put out now.

Have a safe weekend whenever it is. I think in 2 days. Schools messing my head up with dates.

Good Post!

If we don't take better care while we are enjoying the back country. The Government will step in and come up with some crazy rule(s) to try to ensure no more fire's can be started by off-road vehicles. (If for no other reason than to look like they are doing something for the voters.) This would probably include sleds.

Just talked with a freind of mine that is doing some construction work on #6 highway near Ponton and he told me that the moss and lican in the bush is so dry that you can pick it up and rub it between your hands and it turns to dust. He also stated that where there has been wet holes they have dried up and the ground has cracked up and starting to form cups. With that said the fire that is at Grand Rapids area was started by hikers that went into view the bat caves in that area and had an inappropriate camp fire.

At Dancing Point there where several pieces of forestry equipment burnt but I'm not sure what started this fire and the one at Sheridon has burnt alot of bush.

I guess the long and short of it if your in the back country, camping ect be careful and use common sense and have a plan or some phone numbers for your local resources office to report a fire. The faster the response the better chance they have on controling it.

Have a good one.

It amazes me that people are that careless. Going to The Pas on wednesday morning, it was getting pretty smokey from that fire near grand Rapids.

#6 highway is opening and closing everyday due to the fire and the smoke.

Hopefully this rain goes right up to Sherdian and dumps.
