After seeing that there is a need for some sort of brace to help keep the secondary clutch in proper alignment as well as avoid breakage, I was quite excited to see that there was a kit being offered. The only thing I did not like was having to drill into the shock tower and the idea of relying on a blind nut for the front mounting point.

Because of these two items I came up with my own brace which needs no drilling into the shock tower and is a very simple install. If anyone is interested in one shoot me a PM...

Scrimmer,

The secondary clutch tower will flex under load and pull down towards the engine. This condition not only misaligns the clutches, there have also been reports of broken support brackets, cracked tunnels where the support attachs and I saw pictures of a sled where the secondary actually made contact with the primary clutch after the support bracket broke. In that case it broke the pto end of the crank right off.
This brace kit will eliminate that issue by stopping any movement of the secondary clutch.

Thanks for the question...

Thanks, good to know, think I may have to watch for that in the sled...could this be the reason for those belts getting eaten?

Yes it definately accelerates belt wear.

I think the reason for using the shock tower bracket is because the tube is very thin, I would guess about 18 ga. and could easily crush and allow the bracket to spin. JMO

Does this affect the factory warranty if something happens to the sled?
Thanks

The XPRS's came with a flat bar that was bolted on right behind the clutches.Just curious if the holes are all ready there and all you have to do is add the bar.Check to see if there is a threaded hole in the driven pulley support bracket. It is right behind the secondary clutch and it is the bracket that holds the counter shaft. If this hole is there I will explain where the other hole is.The bar from BRP isnt more than $30.

If there is a threaded hole where I explained, the part number for the bar is 518325795 and it is called a "link".

Dudes: I'm usually over at doo talk, but decided to join here as well...saw this post and had to reply...anyway, just wanted to say YellowXP800's product is easy to install and worth it... Just like adding more bogies to the wimpy SC5 rear skid and other necessary mods, I think the tower brace for any XP owner is a must have.
