Anyone out there paint front suspension arms and spindles? Want to paint mine black to match the sled but not sure how well paint will stick to the arms? They look to be powder coated from the factory? What prep and paint works best? Anyone with pics of a black sled with black arms?
minet
yah i had the same sled you have and did it.
cant find pics right now ,got some more at work,, anyhow.

yah you need to strip all the old powder off and then get them repowdered. i used a 4 inch steel braided wheel in an angle grinder for all the steel parts, and a 3 inch brass wheel on all the allunimum parts, and them a dremmel tool to do all the cracks and corners i couldnt get.
its a job. worth paying some one 100 bu8cks to sandblast it all.

Thanks. Send them if you get a chance. Are those 2007 stock AC skiis? How did you like them? What else did you do to her? I've got the following ordered for mine;

10 tooth drivers
Cutler weights
Glide washers
AC orange/white
Torsional conversion
Pipe mod
y pipe
VForce
2 degree key

Will also fully polish the tunnel. The gray suspension arms stick out like a sore thumb on the black sleds IMO.

Those skis appear to be the stock M series Skis.

Here is a pic of my F5 that had both front and rear susp powder coated!!!! I really liked the way it looked/held up!

had alot of fine tuning to it thats it , i sold the sled this spring to a guy near me. had a brand new 144 backcountry on it, was pretty boss looking sled imo. guy got a deal on a nice sled but then again i sold a sled in the off season, and got a deal myself on an M. the skis where off my 08M, kept the powpros but im building another XF and using some M skis as well on that, casue i got em cheep. dont know how they will work but the bottoms dont look to different that the powpros, just dont have the second shoulder.

i would change the upper idlers to one size larger

add tunnel reinforcments

moose utility handwarmers* can skip the thumbs

mill the primary

shift assist

bdx inner idler wheel kit

2 inch riser

heavier secondary spring

i will be doing all of the above on my xfmod and did them all to my last xf cept the inner idler wheels i used a homemadejobber

Just did mine 2 weeks ago. Had the whole front end sandblasted and coated black for 150 dollars. The parts look great, I'm doing the skid next.

I bent my right a-arms this winter, so I purchased black A-arms for both sides. Then I had a friend paint the spindles and saddles with black Imron. It looks much better now.

Did he just scuff up the powder coat on the aluminum spindles and paint? I'm not worried about painting the steel arms but want make sure it sticks to the spindles.

Yeah, I just scuffed them up, and did not strip them down to bare metal. It stuck just fine, and didn't react with the powder coat or anything. I don't know if it will be a durable as powder coat, but Imron is tough stuff, so it should be OK.

No, I haven't taken any. But it looks basically like the one that Minet posted. The spindles (with the Imron) are a bit glossier than the powder coat on the A-arms, but not enough that I care.

We just did another set of A-arms and spindles for a F sled..

I can powder coat your A-arms for $100 Gloss black. (this includes stripping the old stuff and any rust off)

$55 for the spindle assemblies..

When done they will look awsome and hold up way better than just paint..

heres mine. Powder coat don't paint. Shop around for the best job on powder coat.

About how much would it cost to get your front and back suspension powder coated?
