Yep.About 10 miles too long between inspections.I just pull my sleds down this spring and all had noisey bearing on the bal shaft.I replaced all the bearing and water pump drive shafts on my two trippels.

Well, there is some good news. A friend of mine has a 1998 T-Cat that he uses for Speed Runs only and he bought this engine for the spare parts but he hasen't needed any so he gave me the engine for the overhaul on his motor. I was going to use the top end for my 2000 ZRT 800 but as I found out the wrist pins are a differant size 20/22 mm. So if anyone needs some 1000 parts I will swap the whole engine for a 900 top end or lets make a deal.

So what exactly happened? Piston skirt fall off? or did the balance shaft let go?

The rod broke at the wrist pin, very common problem on the 97 and 98 models, Some break at the top of the rod at the wrist pin, some break below the wrist pin, I seen a 97 that cut the entire engine in half.

When I tore down the engine there was a lot of oil in the flywheel housing and there was no pressure on the crank from the seal but the seal was intact. I think that snow800 is right and that the cyl sized which would normally stop the engine fron turning but when the small end of the rod gave way the engine kept turning and tore everything up. The other two cyl's, pistons and heads look like new.
