I am looking at buying a new to me 4x4 and am trying to figure out which to look for. I am a big guy and do alot of trail riding along with some mild mud riding. I would be running no bigger than 28's and will be adding a pipe and clutch kit. Which one of these do you think will be the more reliable machine. I like the idea of the more torque and power of the Brute but am concerned about reliability.

Thanks

I'm a honda guy, but of those two go for the yammi. The brutes are more powerful but tend to have more problems. Yammi has the best belt drive of them all.

If you ride deep water go with a yamaha and extend the vents for the clutches. yamahas balance good but the brutes will roll over like a dog in the deep. niether will have a problem turning 28's but the brute is definetly faster on top. The yamaha is definetly mor nimble in the trail though. I ride with both and have experience with both. I still wouldn't trade my pol-your-ass 800 but both the other listed are good machines but The yamaha is definetly my second choice. Don't for get in the deep ruts the grizzly power steering does help. ylsuper.gif

i have an 04 prairie 700, my buddy bought a new 05 grizzly, his has tires, clutch, and winch. mine is completly stock and I can go higher, deeper, farther, and twice as fast. His has broke so many times uts pathetic!! he has had to replace all the cv shafts, clutch, front diff, and more. He now lets his woman ride it and he got a new can-am 650. just my opinion

the brute has 2x the motor was just on both this weekend. the brute was much more fun.

I had that same desicion to make when I bought my new one. I had a 05 rinny all decked out. I had snorkel, exhaust, k&n, jet kit, 27's, multi mount winch etc but it just lacked the low end torque, low range and locker. Always was a Honday guy and hated to switch over but they needed to step up. I test drove the griz with power steering, talk about a nice handling machine but if you plan on having any passangers this isn't any good without a two up seat. I felt like the seat was the size of a match book. So then I tried the 07 Brute 750 NRA addition. I hit that gas once, stood it up and I was sold. So far I have a full muzzy exhaust, dynotech cdi, k&n, jets, 26 in mudlites on some kick ass motosprt alloy tork rims and installing a warn XT30 winch on tommorrow night. This thing is a freaking beast. I actually have a new frame on it because I got in a head on collision with a rhino before I even made the first payment. It held up pretty good in the wreck. Good thing I was on this beast or it might have been alot worse. Well 5500 for parts and labor is still pretty bad but when you mess up the frame the $$ goes up big time.

No question about it. Go with the Brute if you want pure power. But then again my buddys got a CanAm 800. It rides like your on a cloud with plenty of bite. Just an option to look into.

The Dealer here in town sells bolth Yamaha and Kawasaki, Everytime I go there I look out back in the service lot and it is not uncommon to see 8-10 Brute forces being worked on. That's gotta tell you something right there.
NB-NYTRO
Get the Outlander 800. Its where its at. I know a guy who keeps breaking tie rods on his Brute. Thats dangerous and at any speed. My Outlander rocks.

What exactly you have done to it, pipe, efi controllor, air box lid removed? You'll see a true 65-67 on flat land with fully sotkc one. My dads cuts of at 68 going down hill, just wont go any faster. They arent the king of speed but sure are comfy, good handling, and it is nice having the added power steering and efi.

I have the grizz 700-my buddy has the brute 650...his has more snot down low-both run side by side topend wise but mines been flawless, ride and handling are worlds better than the brutes-both running 27's-his has been repaired a few times now.If you want the best all around-buy the Grizzly700 eps model-if you want torque galore buy the brute-otherwise its a no brainer-Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS has been QOTY for two years running now.....

Im 350 + and I ride with guys on Raptors and Scramblers and they NEVER have to wait for me. I beat this machine to a pulp every time out. In the mud, there is no better machine. At 1200 miles and 0 issues.

Go with the Brute. The group I ride with have a combination of machines, several Can-am's, a couple Grizzly's, a couple Kodiaks, few honda's, and one Polaris (my sons). My Brute has been by far the best machine of the bunch to date. The only one even close is a buddies 800 Renegade (Can-am) and he rides like a pussy so he can't keep up.

lol.gif I have had a few crashes, nothing to keep me from getting up and finishing the ride. Besides some of us know how to ride. We don't need a roll cage...stirthepot.gif

I'll throw my vote in for the Grizzly as I recently bought an 08 SE 700. It was between that and a Renegade, but the Grizzly won due to reliability factor, price, the local dealers, and the fact that it has diff-lock and power steering. What it gives up to the Renegade (power and suspension) I will fix w/ mods (HMF pipe, hi-comp piston, a VDI computer (whenever they feel like releasing them), some clutching to get it all dialed in and probably Elkas). It's almost cheaper to do all that to a Grizzly then it is to buy a stock Renny and then I think it will be pretty close to equal performance wise. And obviously it would be virtually impossible, or at least cost prohibitive to add EPS and diff-lock to a Renny. :P

I had to make the same decision last spring, grizzly 700 or BF 750. I chose the BF 750 and could not be happier. The Griz is nice ATV but I did not like the ape hanger handle bars and the engine lacks the snap of the BF or Can Am's. Though the power steering on the Griz is a nice touch. If I had to do it all over again, BF all the way. Very dependable, good ride & handling and great power. Someone made a comment about the amount of Brute Force's at the service department in their area! Stop by a shop that sells Polaris ATV's. Polaris always out numbers Yamaha, Honda or Kawasaki ATV's at the service shops I have been to.

Dude go with the grizzly. I'm 6' 230 lbs and have beat the living piss out of mine for all of its 1800 miles. It has taken everything i can throw at it and then some. The only thing i have replaced is the brakes. And I just replaced the belt. You wnt be disappointed.

Kawi is far and away the worst engine, Polaris would be a close second for problems and maintaince. Cat builts a good machine, with a true 4 wheel independent suspension (no rear sway bar linking the rear wheels) 12" ground clearence, disk brakes, SS brake lines, built in reciever hitch, and a tranny that uses a wet clutch so you arn't changing belts as often as oil (like polaris) Just stay away from the 650 V2 it uses the kawi motor, and will have engine and belt problems. if you want the quickest machine ever built get a thundercat, you can smoke the 450 sport quads and then throw it in 4WD lock the front diff and go through a couple feet of mud.

If its between yammi and kawi go with yami.

I'm partial to the Grizzly too. I've never crashed a quad but I have flipped a riding lawnmower while trying to load it on a sled trailer with an atv ramp that was too steep for a lawnmower. That left a mark and a sore ass for days.

go with the grizzly.. i have a grizzly 660 and i love it.. no problems with it yet.. belt has never slipped

Now this sounds like mine.

I bought the 08 700 FI SE. The power steering is very nice. I had a 03 660 before this one and didnt have many complaints on that one but the 700 is the best by far.

Well...I went and did it, I traded my V-starr in for a new Brute Force 750. I liked the Yamaha and the Polaris and the new King quad but I just like the styling of the Brute better and it seemed more roomy also than the others so i decided to get the big dog. The bike is not traded in yet as the deal won't be closed till next week due to some personal stuff I need to get done this week and this weekend. So if any one is interested in a showroom condition (seriously) 2004 Yamaha V-star 1100 classic with all the silverado has on it and more (windsheild, saddle baggs, back rest, fog lamps, hyway bars with pegs, passing lamps...etc...) give me shout out, because as of Tues. of next week I give it to the dealership.
