Full Version: Electric start - worn out starter gear

Just noticed the g/f's sled was making some strange noises when using the electric start.
Turned out that what we call the "bendix drive" , #14 in the pic below was badly worn, and probably not disengaging properly from the ring gear when starting. Anyone seen that before?
(and , any tips on how to avoid further problems after swapping out the worn out part? Looks like i will have to sand down some burrs on the ring gear teeth....)

You may find that #13 has a worn bushing Ivar. The big twins are very hard on electric starters.
