So I just moved into a new place and it's a shared house between a couple people. The guy who owns the house has wireless set up and uses our computer's MAC addresses for security. The problem I'm having is that every ~10 minutes (almost exactly sometimes), I get disconnected from it. No one else seems to have this problem but me. We've unplugged the router for a little while and plugged it back in and it didn't fix the problem. The internet usually won't reconnect on its own either. I have to go to the "view wireless networks" section and reconnect manually. I guess it could be something wrong with my computer but does anyone have any ideas? My wireless was working fine before using this router/system.
Is your computer seeing any other networks or only the one that is in your house?
How far from the router are you and how is the signal?
You could always ask the guy to reconfigure the router, just reset it, capture the MAC's and see if that helps.
If he didn't change the password on the router, you could look at it and see what all the settings are. However if he is filtering by MAC address, odds are he has it locked down.
