Here is the exact wording out of the ISR Rule Book.
TRACK SUSPENSION [Stock Snowmobile Regulations]
1. Suspension must be OEM for the make and model. Suspensions must remain in
the original mounting location, or optional locations pre-drilled in backing plate by
the manufacturer. Suspension components must remain in original location or
optional locations filled by the manufacturer. No substitution of material is
allowed.
2. Rails may not be bent or shortened.
3. Rear idler and marginal snow wheels may be added or removed, along with
mounting brackets for an OEM wheel kit. The wheel diameters may be trued
round.
4. Slide rail lubrication will not be allowed.
5. Any hyfax is allowed.
6. Any shock absorber fluid, non-flammable gas, or fluid metering valves may be
used. The shock may be shortened, OEM length for the model must not be
exceeded.
7. Any springs are allowed. The springs may be removed and replaced with some
other type of cushion device.
8. Springs may be shortened or heated.
9. Suspension may be reinforced but not re-engineered.
Looks to me like you are stuck with the '05 skid if you're going to race in the stock class. If you're racing in a local circuit you may ask the Race Marshal or Tech Inspector if you can make the swap to a newer skid.
IMO there is nothing at all wrong with the '05 skid except where it is placed in the tunnel. The ISR rules allow you to relocate the skid in the tunnel as long as you use holes Predrilled in the backing plate (see bullet #1). The '05 IQ has these holes predrilled and when you move the front arm down in the tunnel your skid will work much better. On bullet #6 there is supposed to be a comma after Absorber (the comma is missing in the rulebook but I know it's supposed to be there). This allows you to use aftermarket or non original shocks in your skid. I would install the '06 or newer emulsion shock on the FTA, this will be a more durable option than the reservoir with hose you currently have. With the '05 skid relocated, the Rear Track Shock valved to you your weight and style and the emulsion front shock your rear skid will be Golden. The only thing wrong with the Stock '05 Front Track Shock is the hose is vuneralble to being ripped off, other than that it can be made to work very good as well.
Hope this helps.
yea ive noticed that, i think the front track shock is junk anyway. well the setup from resevoir to the shock.... thanks for the info
