I'm hoping that someone has already undertaken this idea can give me some good info. I have a 99 MMax with a 4" Rox riser/pivot. I picked up a 98 SRX Mountain this spring with the stock handlebars and a cheap mountain bar on it.
I'm not a spring chicken @ 47 (by next ridin' season anywhos) with two shot lower vertebra and the next two above it starting to go. I'm also 6'4.5" tall and have the accompanying gorilla arms to go with it. What I would like to do is to take the current steering setup on the MMax and put that on the SRX Mountain. That's nothing more than swapping oranges and apples for oranges and apples.
Here's where I need the help and/or suggestions. I would like to put AT LEAST an 8" riser/pivot on the Mmax and I am leaning toward a 10-incher. I figure the more height I can go with, the less leaning and squatting I'll have to do as almost ALL of our riding is off-trail and I am a greenhorn rider trying to make up for a lot of lost time.
The current 4-incher is a help, but I think the 10-incher wold be SO much better on my back. Anyone have suggestions on the difference between the 8-10? Like I said, I've got gorilla arms so I don't think regular riding would lead to arm fatigue. Also, a buddy was telling me about a steering rod extension that would offer a much more stronger steering column...anyone know anything about this?
Also--are there any places I can go for parts to get EVERYTHING at one location? It would be a lot easier to deal with one business instead of trying to piece-meal the project from a number of different sources.
Anyone with ideas, suggestions, places to look on the internet for more info--or on this site that I haven't discovered...sure would like to hear from yous. You can never learn too much!! Either post it here or send me an email to cford@up.net.
Thanx folks!
