Doubt VAST Exec Director Bryant Watson living in Danville wouldn't have a way around the removed bridge. Bridge probably wasn't wide enough to drive a groomer over it.

I doubt that any RR bridge wouldn't be wide enough for a groomer to go over...we have many RR bridges that groomers go over throughout the state.

I understand that the VAOT is removing this bridge and abutment to improve roadway drainage on 2B.

I would assume that due to the heavy snow traffic through that area of trail, that the local snowmobile club in conjunction with VAST will either replace the bridge or reroute that section of trail.

The bridge was removed with the stipulation that it be replaced in the fall. Shaunna Clifford was quoted as saying VTrans was already pricing the replacement which will be a longer, lighter bridge that will handle a groomer. It will not hold heavy construction vehicles which concerns me as we (the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail Committee) are planning construction in 2009.

I will tell you that I personally do not trust VTrans, DOT or the ANR will keep their word. The budget situation will be the excuse that will keep the State agencies from following through.

I will promise you there will be a bridge there come snowmobile season- one way or another.
