Is there any chance that we could start a series in the NY area for local racing? Grass,Tar and Water or whatever?
Just asking the Question. Theres seems to alot of racers and people that might support the idea.
Just looking for some input.

The Shawnee Sno-Chiefs might be interested. I'm the chair of our Grass Drags. E-mail me and we can talk.

Thats a great idea PFR. I think we could talk to Southern Orleans into getting involved, they can run the can/ams, and then one or two races for the circuit on the side too. Keep this topic hot. And keep me informed. I travel alot but would be interested in doing what I could.

Hey Guys,
I see there is some interest in doing this. Is this somethimg all the clubs in WNY could get together on. One set of rules, fun raceing,
get all the kids invovled. You know the 340,440,550 and all the other junk that maybe laying around. We are running the COSDRA series,But this would be a great chance for folks to try it and see if its made for them.

I am not trying to out do any other series or race plans, It just seems that with all the high prices it just makes sense. I do understand racing is not cheap. I have been involved in racing for over 30 years from midgets, modifieds, stock cars and sleds.

Give me a call 978-460-1688 cell work phone

Thanks

Sounds like a good idea. If they all were run like shawnee it would be even better.

If you like asphalt drag racing, Lancaster speedway always has a pretty good turnout of sleds at thier Friday nite program.

Or if you like quarter mile you can go to NYIRP(.com) Saturday is a full program and there is decent turn out of asphalt sleds. The Bike/Sled shootout is June 1st. Also Wednesday nights is trophy racing. My wife and I will be there all summer long chasing each other down the 1320!

Southern Orleans may be interested sense we just put a ton of time and money into the track and have been talking about having more than one race per year. Track should be ready by 9/1. We are running the the CAN AM series with COSDRA on 9/13 & 14. Keep me in the loop.

WOW Randy, that looks great. What kind of grass u guys putting in? I heard there was a "certain" kind that was better for racing. Can't remember what it was but maybe someone else does. I am coming home tomorrow. Probably home for the summer. I will get ahold of you.

Well folks it looks like this could be a great success if it is handled the right way, It seems that we could have 2 tracks involved mabe 3 if we talked to the owners of Perry Speedway, Lets have some input how to set up a local series and keep the costs low.
Maybe a one time fee,Then low cost fees to race at the events. Points for showing up and for 1,2,3,4. Then at the end of the year total points for all racers

It would be nice to see some vintage oval racing in the WNY area.. I spend alot of time and money traveling out of the area to race . With the amount of money an average race generates and with the amount of intrest in that area of the sport it would be nice to see a couple races in our area each season!

if there was grass drags set up in WNY I would like to see some pure stock classes or trail classes, so a guy could put on a tether and come right out of the shop to the track then back in the shop till winter, I'm talking no lowering, trail studs only, stock motors, you get the idea make it so a lot of people would get involved. Most people stay away from dragging due to having stock set ups and not wanting to monkey around setting their trail sled up to race then put it back come fall time. I could see big turn out of a pure stock, 5,6,7,open classes

a pure stock class is to easy to cheat in tell me some ones not gonna jet their sled or put different clutch springs in. The isr trail stock class is hard enough to keep clean. Plus half the fun is trying different clutch setups and knowing what temps to jet for and then go out and testing. but canadaguia runs a pure stock class.

O.K., so who is interested in getting together to see if we can figure out a Grass Drag Organization for New York? When do you want to get together? Where?

Would like to do my best to be involved. Can't commit but when available I will be around.

Word on the street round here is that dan ricci from ricci meadows golf course is possibly putting in a track at his place. Could be another place for a local event

If there is a good place to race on water, contact the Eastern Watercross Association (www.ewaracing.com)....they may be interested in a new venue on the circuit.

We raced at Darien Lake two weeks ago....

Any new ideas on this topic?

Sorry-I've just been too busy lately. We started our grass drag meetings last night.

I have heard that the owner of Ricci Meadows Golf course in Waterport, NY has bought a 2 or 4 lane light and timing system for his property. Have been running on the driving range and it is really smooth. Grass start line for now and gonna work on more shutdown and where u start from but a great start. He is very serious about making a great track here. He wants to make it , permanent by burying the wires and everything. I think he will be letting people run on it for a fee. Get ur R/T's, E/T's and 60' times. He is working on planning an outlaw event later on.
