The issue that last time was with changing to the "new" rules Rob decided on before selling.



To be honest you guys know as much as me at this point. Dan made the Mod Crew aware of the sale last week and says no major plans to make changes. That is all I know at this point.

i hope they dont do it up like SW. I rarely go on there anymore because of that, its so confusing and hard to navigate around the site. I use to go on there like 5 times a week just like HCS but now i only go on like once or twice a month.

Horrible what they did on SW.

If it became a problem we'd expand the Canadian Frozen Thunder forums for everyone, was just something we never got to once the sled division took off. We should have divided the forums into more divisions but we wanted to keep everyone 'together' to eliminate bashing etc, plus as most of you know we gave away more free stuff than any other online public forum in the history of the net 'without' accepting as much as a dime of advertising dollars

It's all about money.
I wonder how much it cost for these guys (verticalscope) to buy "snowmobile.com", they also bought others.
They are only interested in making money...not promoting a sport. Any sport.
They just want to line their pockets.............

Without mentioning the names of an actual person or their new web site...............it seems that a former HCS owner (no names please) has just launched a new anything goes snowmobile site (no names mentioned again).
I see from reading over there that some folks here have received warnings when they've either mentioned either his or his sites name or posted it in their sig or avi pictures. No idea why anyone should / would or could be afraid as I'm sure HCS will continue to grow if they keep it anywhere close to what it is now.

HCS will continue to and 'has' run more professionally since the departure of that said 'other' person before Dan took over. The barely readable, full of obscenity, insult filled environment that the "other" individual encouraged and promoted to draw online 'traffic' here in the past showed very little class and there were numerous big name sponsors about to pull out of HCS just before Dan took over and cleaned HCS up. Know this personally because we deal with them on a daily basis and you can trust they were NOT IMPRESSED. HCS is far more respected today around the 'industry' than it ever was in the past, and that was the direct result of Dan taking it to a new more positive level

Please.................Rob didn't take HCS from an idea to one of, if not the largest sled site on the planet cause he's an idiot. Like his format or not, he did a great job and should be respected for it.
As a fan of a more orderly environment, I also applaud Dan for his efforts. I am however very disappointed that he sold.

Rob did an incredible job of bringing riders of all makes under one roof to participate in an online discussion of what they are most passionate about.............sledding. No idea what your problem is with him but when you start talking about what a poor job he did you should expect a barrage of backlash from the folks that truly appreciate his efforts. Nothing easy about starting or running a web site of this size.

For the record, I came to HCS when it was only Rob writing about his trips, selling Polars handlebar emblems and giving reports on his XC600's and new Firecats that he and his wife drove just because they liked to. I thought the guy did a bang up job right from the beginning, even before it became a forum. Not sure why it's anyones business here, you have the right to go somewhere else if you please. Would love to know the name of the other forum just for interest sake if nothing else.

I've always preferred this site because you can find really good information on whatever sled you're riding, information for your favourite riding areas, and can have open discussions on topics, that's what keeps me coming back.

Let's hope it stays as is.

agreed , but especially now as opposed to a time when it became littered with bashing/attacks and personally directed insults on daily basis and that was just before Dan took over. Again some of the biggest advertisers were about to pull the plug so there WAS a problem. It's also the paying advertisers for the most part that if not present such forums wouldn't exist, so for those thinking they can control the veiws and opinions of others - think again. Everyone is 'entitled' to their own opinion, whether we all agree or disagree but some people go out of their way ( as above ) to attack individual personal opinions of others taking topics 'off topic'

Not directed at you Spidermand but for a few that throw in the B.S "Business" jabs, they might want to save such comments, or try to explain why our 'business' has double sales in each of the last 5 years when Canada Revenue Statitics show 75% of all new business fail or go bankrupt. Or better yet why we are now supplying 1/2 the Powerpsports businesses/shops in Eastern Canada! ( and growing! )

For the record, I used to use Snowmobileworld exclusively, but since the format change I don't go at all. It's too bad, I was a member their for over 5 years, a paid member for most of that time, but complications with the new format, and almost zero traffic clinched it for me. I'm done with the site.

Let's hope the new owners here leave things as is. I fail to see the point in changing a format that works.

The new site is freedomsledder.com, the founder is Rob Lyons the same guy who founded HCS.

Spence - thought I should respond to this.

I know in the past you had issues with Rob and I know that a word filter was in place in the Admin Panel deleting reference to your business when you were not an advertiser.

However - you do need to realize that it was not Dan who was responsible for cleaning up this site. Rob decided things needed to change and I was made a Mod (along with a few others) and given clear instructions to clean the crap up and get rid of the problems. 99% of the housecleaning was all done and over with well before Dan bought this place. I know this for a fact as I did a lot of it myself.

Now - I know Dan welcomed you back as an advertiser and as far as I can see there have not been any problems.

Just wanted to straighten that out.

Honestly, the impression was it was Rob's personality that fueled most of that as anyone can see by going over to the new site, which I'm sure you would agree would not attract the interest of sponsors when it's full of obscenities, personal bashing etc. In defence I will say that environment will attract some and if I was personally hammered up and looking to just speak at will without any consideration for others personal veiws feelings I would be posting already. That's not what we want for the business
