Hi Guys,

I've done some searchin online and can't seem to find the answer. We are headed to the cabin in Montreal, WI the last weekend in May/first of June to do some Musky/Northern fishin at the Gile Flowage and I need to know if I need to bring my kicker for my boat? Can any of you tell me if there is a HP limit on the lake??

Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no limit. I take my 50hp out all the time (have talked to the DNR while in the water) and have seen boats with 150's on the back. Be careful, MANY trees and rocks just below the surface and it constantly changes as they hold and let out water at the dam. Best bet is to find the old Montreal river channel to use for travel, then go slow to desired spot off that.

This time of year, you'll be ok almost everywhere on the flowage. The worst area for stumps and trees is in the upper part where the river first enters, the channel is deep but ten feet to either side it comes shallow real quick. And what we call Tower bay isn't a place for speed, its just off the the left of the Gile landing as your facing south. If you can find a fishing hot spots type of map with depths, it will help. The last one I looked at was pretty accurate as far as depths and locations of rock bars go.
The majority of the flowage is less than 12 feet deep, the river channel will be right around 18-20.

A couple of props and lower unit parts and you'll learn where and when the hazards are. At least thats how I learned russian_roulette.gif
