I just purchased a 00 cmc half ton 5.3l 4by4 and Am lookin at getting the super 44 muffler. I am too poor to run true dual at the moment but cannot stand a quiet truck (all my other vehicles car, sled, bike) have aftermarket. I will just go dual from muffler back. I would like some feedback on what you guys are runing and where to get the best deal. thanks alot

i have a magnaflow true dual exhaust on my 2500hd. sounds awesome. fairly tame at cruise and idle but give her some gas and she growls. flowmasters are louder and they have that drone that i dont like. everyone has their own opinion when it comes to exhaust.

yeah right!
Remember to pass inspection, not sure what that means in where you are. We don't have inspection here. On my Fords I run dual after the cat(s), no muffler. I've only had older Chevys but that was always a no-brainer for exhaust.

I would have put stacks on my Dmax if I didn't have a tauneu cover. I'm thinking of cutting the cat off. I gotta see if it has any sensors on it first though.

i have a 40 series flowmaster on my truck welded in the stock muffler location and single chamber flows on my camaro, both are pretty loud
one ton fun

I have a Flowmaster 50 series SUV. I like it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuGw4Hy4FysI wouldn't pay extra dollars for a flowmaster. There patent is up and there are companies out there making the same muffler for much cheaper. Here is a link to some cheap mufflers that are essentially the same as a flowmaster.
http://www.performance-curve.com/index.asp...p;Category=1415The single chambered mufflers will be the loudest. One of my buddies has a single in/dual out flowmaster original 40 series on a truck very similar to yours and it is badass. Put a single chamber on there and you will be noticed.
Flowmaster single chamber on a 03 5.3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1irHSuTWIASame on a 4.8

I have an Flowmaster original 40 on my 5.3 and its loud outside the cab, and fairly quiet inside until you get on it. Another friend of mine has strait pipe on his 4.8 and it sounds like a stock car, wont pass inspection either.

first cut out the cat as long as you dont have to pass emisions tests. next if you want really loud put strait pipes. but if you just want a nice loud put a cherry bomb but install it backwards so that the baffles dont grab as much.

Depends what truck you have, I know someone that cut out the cats on a 5.3 and strait piped it and it sounded like shit. I know another person that cut out the cats, put on some lt pacesetter headers, ran 3 inch diesel strait pipe and it sounds sick. All depends what your setup is.

yea your good to go then. Idk why I thought the 5.3 with straitpipe didnt sound good, but its pretty good sounding. But its not as loud as you would think for some reason.

not sure what trucks or when they started but on my 2004 HD it had true dual all the way to the muffler, so it was easy to do custom true duals with glasspacks out at an angle behind the tires! wicked loud!

for some reason dodges are always a little louder than anyother brancd with the same exhaust. maybe its all the fuel running threw them lol. can't beat cutting out the cats on any truck even with stock mufflers

the best flowing chambered muffler is the hooker "aero chamber", center in center out. it out flowed the flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber. remove your cat (check local laws first) and use one of these (or 2), it will sound sick and perform! i have 2 of these on my street driven drag s-10, its loud and turns EVERYBODYS head! they make them for cat back dual systems too!

ok, first of all with emissions: i have a 02 silverado 5.3 and instead of cutting the cats off, i just made a couple of cuts, opened them up and hollowed them out and welded'em back up. you will get a ses code, but go to any decent performance tuner and he will delete the rear 02 sensors. i have passed emissions with flying colors and it sounds badass and unique. right now i am running a single moroso spiralflow with a 3'' in and 3'' out dumped out the muffler. it was too quiet so i cut it in 3 sections, removed about 6 inches of the middle section, welded it back up and it sounds mean and offers just the right amout of back pressure. the muffler is only about 50 bucks from jegs.

i have a 02 5.3 sierra, i'm thinking of putting on straight pipes but i have a couple questions
-Can straight pipes be bad for your motor? Shouldn't you have some backpressure?
-Do you guys get pulled over a lot?
-I haven't even checked but is the stock exhaust welded or is it held together with clamps? Would I be able to easily swap back to stock for inspection? Do the sensors just unplug?
-Besides wanting to stomp on it everywhere, does this effect gas mileage?
Sorry for all the ?'s

Straight pipes will give you enough back pressure, but it can hurt you in the power department and your gas millage will most likley go down. I had mine dumped right after the cat which was very loud, but yesterday i had to put my thrush muffle back on due to i need every MPG i can get. I have never been pulled over but i have a friend who has, but he has headers and his truck is lifted so it sticks out a lot more.

Go to your local muffler shop and see wut they got for prices for mufflers, cats and pipes first. They will tell you wut you need and if it will work on your truck correctly or not. Ive put 3 different mufflers on my truck before i found the right one for sound and milage now i just run a high flow cat with no muffler, but its a older chevy so theres only one sensor to worry about. I dont know about yours sledmaine. Go to a salvage yard if you got one near you, you might get lucky and find a system off a right off if your lucky.
