Just read in the ATV regulation book for 2008, that ANYONE born after July 1st, 1987 MUST take the ATV Safety Course to ride legally ride an ATV.
Has this always been the rule? I've been riding since I was very young, and now I hear this? WTF I'm 20 years old, have been driving an AUTOMOBILE for over 4 years, a snowmobile legally for over 8 years, and now they're going to make me take a fucking ATV Safety Course?
Is this some new addition to the rules or what? I had honestly never heard that you MUST take it. I thought my dealer maybe would have said something about it when I bought my machine from them.

Looks similar to the snowmobile safety certificate to me... Except I'm not affected by the date of the ATV... Not sure how they come up with the years...

Hmmm my multiquote isn't working.
I'm October of 87, so just a bit too late.
I always understood the snowmobile safety certificate as you needed it unless you were 18 and had a valid drivers license.

I'm a volunteer snowmobile safety instructor. Sno'bile safety course is required for ANYONE born since Jan. 1, 1976. Yes that's '76. People over 18 can go to the DNR website and arrange to take the safety course on-line, or request an interactive CD-ROM with the course. The CD is free, but you send in $10 bux with your completed quiz to get your certificate.
f7snopro: it isn't people like yourself that bring on the regulations, its all the other damn fools on ATV's or sleds who ride w/o a helmet, go too fast for conditions, ride in prohibited areas, and have either fatal or very serious accidents.
For ATV's, here is what is listed on the DNR site:( It's true about the July 1,1987 birth requirement.)
ATV safety training
Requirements
As of August 1, 2006, training is available to youth ages 11 - 15. (Certificate is valid when student turns 12 years of age. )

Valid Driver's license should be the requirement I think. Idiots are going to be idiots if they take a safety course or not.

You don't have to take the class. You only need to do the CD portion if you are over sixteen, just to clear that up...

Take the class.
Its there because tax dollars are being wasted rescuing idiots. Theyre hoping these classes can help save the time spent unwrapping jackasses from trees, digging them out of lakes, etc...
Its a good thing. I still dont understand why there isnt a helmet law in this state.. Yet they have a fucking seatbelt law.
Assinine MN lawmakers at their best.
