Good idea. I've never been much of a wheeler, but the last couple years I've started to get interested for some reason...I'm peeking at the used wheeler market right now. If I find what I want, I'll want some idea's on where to ride.
one ton fun
I can't wait to ride! I havent had time lately but I hope to find some time soon!

Another West Rutland club member here. Why don't we have a HCS ATV ride or something? And don't forget the VASA Mt. Washington ride in August!

I headed up to my place in Morgan in a couple weeks. From what I have been told, they are working on trails from Island Pond to Morgan. We have a trail from our house that connects to some of these trails in Morgan. Then I guess they are also pretty close to getting to Derby from Morgan also. I guess it helps having the club Pesident living in Morgan. Someone told me he is involved with VASA also, possibly the President? Bill Bailey is his name. Can't wait to ride! We're headed to Mass. tomorrow mornig to ride in Otis,Tolland area. Gonna be wet!

Yes, those are the same ponds. Do you have an atv? CV Explorers only have about 3 miles of trails so they dont really have an individual map.

I am the Vice President of the Borderline Ridge Riders we have trails that go through Newport center, Coventry ,Troy, Lowell,Westfield, and Irasburg. We are working on a trail that we hope to go from Derby to Morgan to hook up with the Brighton club. That one may still be another year in the works. Hey all,I was out riding around in my truck the other day......decided to take a "short cut" over the washington turnpike (in washington vt.) went as far as I dared to go (I was by myself w/no winch) after almost tipping my truck on its side,I decided to turn around.
Well,anyway......I noticed all the atv signs and designated trails in the area. I never even knew they were there. It really got me thinking....

What I"d like to know is, Are there any "maps" available that show all the disignated trails (like a vast map) I am seriously considering getting into atv'ing but I want to know where/how many designated areas/trails there are, where and how far I could ride. I dont want to go buy an atv and not be able to go anywhere.

I know vasa and everyone has been working hard to develope these trails, getting permission, etc. And I know they are all over the place, but where??
You guys are doing awesome, and I look forward to the future progress.!!! I'd like to join the fun,but want to make sure its worth the money that I would be investing.
I've looked on the VASA website, but I havnt seen any "maps" showing where to ride. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The individual clubs are where you need to go to get maps,.and also, when you purchase the VASA permit, you will get a state map that has several clubs on it. As of this april, that particular map still did NOT have our clubs trails on the map, so its best to go to your local club and get that info from the trail coordinator. My experience also tells me that there are a hell of a lot MORE trails out there than just the ones on the maps!

Thanks Serbie, I looked into it a little more this weekend, and it does say on the VASA website that you will get a map AFTER you join a club. Do you have to be a "club member" to get a map from a different area? Or ,if once you are a VASA member, and want to ride in a different area, can you get a map from a different (local) club ? (if the "state" map hasnt been issued or lacks detail) for example,if I join the "washington" club and get a washington area map,but then decide I want to ride the NEK,can I get a map from their local club somehow??? or would I have to join "their" club also to get "their" map??

I just want to know that there are plenty of areas/trails to ride (make it worthwhile) before I go spend alot of money on an ATV,Reg,VASA,Club, and Ins.

Are there a good ampunt of trails in the "Coles Pond" area ???? anyone know??? I was told Coles Pond Road was a designated ATV route, but I dont know....

I was pleased to find out that in the town of Washington (and surrounding) there are an abundant amount of trails .......looks like fun

I think you need to get that clubs membership to get the maps, and quite possibly to ride in that system as well,.I dont think its like VAST just yet. Fortunately, clubs dueas are cheap, and like my club is only $5 for your second ATV. As far as the Coles pond area goes, I remember that the caledonian printed an article once on how the club was denied use of certain roads for crossing trails, they were not directly 90 degrees across from the road, so they were shut down, now maybe somethings changed since then, also, in that area, (Danville, coles, stannard, Ndanville) NONE of the class 3 roads are open to AVT's, which really sucks, so your stuck to the woods trails period. I do know that on the state VASA map, several areas of the route 51 snowmobile trail are OK for ATV riding, specifically near the Ramsey Rd area. I havent been that way yet on my ATV, and probably wont as our clubs trails in Concord/Lunenburg/Granby/Victory are all more than I need and our class 3 roads are legal to ride, dirt AND paved!!.. If I find out more on the Coles pond area, I will let you know,..oh yea,..The MOUNT WASHINGTON ride is August 3rd, you need to get your tickets before the end uf JUNE for this if you want to ride up the mountain. I WILL be there again,..its a hoot!!

Well,I joined VASA last week, and the Central Vermont ATV club. I contacted VASA yesterday,to clear some things up for myself ,and I figured I'd pass on a little info for others too.
Once you join VASA,you need to join a club, but you only need to join ONE club. Once you join VASA and a local club, you are then able to enjoy ALL of VASA's trails.
Now,they did tell me that alot of individual clubs DO have their own ,more detailed, maps. They are availible upon request......you need to contact the club whos trails you want to ride, and they will supply you with a trail map. Each club has a link to their sites right from the VASA website.

Well, now that I am all LEGAL....... Where are the best places to ride (which areas have the best/most trails).?

I've ridden sleds in Vermont (actually almost all my riding is in Vermont), but never rode quads in VT. I was reading some of the links posted and have a couple questions.

With my sled, I can be registered in my State, but I have to have Insurance, a VAST membership and join a local club to ride in VT. I read the part about joining VASA, joining a club and something about Insurance and registration. My questions are, is my MA registration valid or do I need to register in VT and do I need Insurance like I do when I ride my sled ???

Also, sounds like the trails are still limited in the NEK. We usually stay at the Border Inn in Derby when we take the sleds up and ride to IP, Canaan and all over that area. Can this be done with the ATVs or are the trails to limited to do this type of riding at this time ???

Also like the Woodford area. Not as big as NEK, but still a lot of fun. Are there ATV trails in the Woodford area too ???

Mike.

You have to be registered in either VT or NH,..and you do have to belong to a club,..any club,..trails are all over the state, however it will be some time before they can compare to the VAST network, if ever they do. No helmet laws, nor do you need insurance (however you would be a fool not to be insured) West fairlee has an enourmous trail system,Stockbridge has a good system,..Troy & Newport have a system, but it doesnt look that impressive from their map,..Our concord (tow atv club) has a great system,..and Hardwick has a good system,..lots more that I didnt mention as well,..its a great sport, and we have a ball together,..Im heading out sunday with the budweiser brigade to do some lunenburg/concord riding,..will post some pics later,...go for it and enjoy your life!!

on the subject of ATV's, i just purchased a new Kawasaki Teryx and i was wondering what the rules are on them in VT, i am already a member of VASA. I just wanted to get any info i can as to wether or not they are generaly accepted on the trails? I live in NY but do most of my riding in VT when i had my ATV. NY has NO means to register my new ride so i am thinking i will register it in VT when the time comes.
