they wqant to make diesel more price compatibale with gas which means, according to the paper a couple weeks ago that to do that the price of diesel will be going up around 40 cents more per liter then gas!

Yeah I heard that somwhere. I think diesel is still more then gas right now.
Oh and by the way, this $2.00 a litre is in a couple years, not this summer.
polarisguy05
petro canada limited or whatever it is... made 250 mill profit last year, this year in there first quarter they are at 1 billion profit. some other oil company im not sure the name was at 9 bill profit. up like 40% from last year. messed up shit!
Delgaty
I doubt gas will get that high this summer, maybe $1.50. Someone should find out where the oil tycoons live and redecorate their house with an RPG launcher.
Laraby
I second the redecorate idea.

Paid $2 a litre in Kelsey this year. It's not like we can just not buy it. And a 4 wheel drive truck is a necessity up here, not just so we can look cool driving down the highway, but so we can make it home on highway 280, and stock up and haul stuff back up from the south. As soon as we can find a better way, with something that has a range of at least 350 km (it's 300 to Thompson from here) in the middle of winter, I'd be in for sure. I'm looking at getting an older diesel and making that bio-diesel crap with fish fry oil and leftover crap from the restaurants, but that still requires that I buy another truck, and the extra cost of fuel isn't enough to justify buying another vehicle and paying registration and insurance. Electric doesn't have the range for any long distance travel, although I would seriously consider one of those ZENN electric cars or something similar for around town if/when the low speed vehicle regs come in. Hell, I would even consider solar/wind electrolysis to make hydrogen if I had a way to store and compress it. It's apparently easy enough to convert an internal combustion engine to burn it. I am looking for a little electric trolling motor for the little 12 foot fiberglass out at the cabin for cabin-hopping. I have a couple of spare deep cycle batteries and a solar panel from the cabin.

I won't stop sledding, or quadding, or boating, or driving, but I might do a little more hiking and canoeing.

I formulated a plan to assasinate Bush. 5,4,3,2....

Actually if no one bought Shell gas for 1 day it would cause them to go bankrupt. They'd be up and running the next day though.

I know im young but trust me gas comes out of my own pocket but i love my 2-stroke too much to go to 4-stroke so i guess i will have to save a little more and find a way to break the new price for grass cutting to the old fokes lol

Holy shit man...fillling up 4x4's for a 700km round trip at 2.00 /ltr hurts just thinking about it. But yeah you said it, "It's not like we can just not buy it".

Anyways, there's talk (mostly alarmist) of gas hitting 2.50/ltr by 2010. If oil keeps going up and up like it has been then it'll happen. Of course, it's not likely, and I don't expect it, but it's possible. It's also not likely to go down soon either. It's getting stupid out there, that's for damn sure and once it hits 2.00...I'm done. A typical trip: Top up the truck to trailer in/out + fill the sled...many times + food&bevs. Factor in the one-time cost of insurance and sno-pass. Then the unknown number of trips for parts and oil and iso & whatever. Maybe some new gear every once in a while. These are all just the basics and (for most) the necessities. Start adding in the bling and holy crap it's time to get a 2nd job. Fuck that. It's a total blast and the best stress reliever I know of but it's all getting just a weee bit too unreasonable for me. It's a few well-planned weekend long-rides with a group or my brother and that's it. Can't justify booting up and down #7 WOT and jumping the approaches every weekend....or whatever....you get my drift...

Down the road, ZENN is the way to go for sure, and I'll seriously look at that when it's allowed here, for the local everyday commutes. If something like that came around that had enough towing capacity to pull a trailer and sled - that would kick mofo ass. It's gotta have better range though. But ZENN as it is now is a great start and very encouraging to see. Whatever "the best alternative" turns out to be it's the towing capacity and range that's key.

I totalled my truck about a month ago and up till about a week-or-so ago was looking for another one. Now I'm thinking I'll just hang back for a few months and see how things go. Still got the woman's 4-cyl Corolla so not hurting for wheels (just towing). Be interesting to see what we're looking at for fuel by the time snow's on the ground again....

arcticcatktm
If only you could burn bullshit, cause $2 a litre is alotta bullshit, slimmey oil pricks!!

I had a hard enough time getting money for gas last winter . I hope delgaty will send a rocket through those oil guys front window LOL

I heard one of the reps for the Zenn car. There not sure how they are gonna work in 30 below there testing ways to keep the bateries warm enough. Wouldn't it be nice when you come out of Teasers errr I mean the mall and ..... no go.

I agree that we need to find alternitive power sources but this stuff needs to be tested and develeoped for our climate those guys in TO have never seen -30 c in there life. 10 CM of snow requires the Army.

I wouldn't buy 1 unless I had more money than brains ... yet

The smart car is starting to impress me though. I followed 1 from Beasejour to LDB figured I catch him right away with the cruise on 110 not a chance he kept that pace no problemo.

2 dollars a litre will force me too syphon gas from Yamaha's apparently they don't need all that gas anyhow grgrin.gif

Totally, and agreed. They'd be stupid to not consider these things before introducing zenn to MB. Not sure the gov't would even allow it until they're climate-capable....

Not sure how well they would work in the Manitoba Winter.... From what I seen on the news one day they don't have much of a range and very slow(not much quicker than a moped, or whatever those 50cc units are) They will more than likely be a city commuter and not allowed on the highways if they are that slow.
low-1
Slow and limited range, yeah, but they would suit me just fine. Farthest it would have to go would be either the store, which is about 1.5K, the school to drop off the little girl, about 1.6K or to a friend's house on the opposite side of town, about 1.9K. And it could stay in a heated garage all the time, or be parked near an outlet with lots of battery blankets under the hood.

For the most part I walk everywhere now, but it would be nice for getting groceries, or for my wife to take our little girl to preschool. I actually asked the RCMP what they would say if they saw a golf cart running around town, and they told me they would have to hear what MPI said about it first. I talked to MPI a while ago and they said they were going to fax me some info on mobility vehicles, but they never did. If lowspeed regs come in, I might just get one of those.

We have had a couple newer ones. 2001 Golf TDI and a 2006 Jetta TDI. I am still impressed with them anytime I get to drive one, including the 1984. My son is away for three weeks so I get to use the 06... since technically it IS MINE! lol. Email from the son (who is in London, England) today said that gas is 1.19 Pounds/L and the pound is worth about $2 Canadian.

Buy your gas at the co-ops so you get the profits as a shareholder not some asshole on bay street.

True, I travelled from the city to St Adolphe and back almost every day for 4 months, and to Stonewall and back for 2, plus a little extra driving on the side, I got a $100 check. Some people see over $500 easily if they travel alot. Not bad if you ask me.

I have an 06 Jetta TDI 5 speed and get an average of 51 mpg. If I can get 600000km's on it I would be very happy.

I live just south of Garson and drive into the city 5 days a week and use a little over 1/2 a tank per week.
