Attached are pictures of the modification that I completed this weekend to my Switchback. I feel this should take care of the overheating, during slow trail riding. I increased the cooling area by 90%. The old cooler had a cooler area of 110 square inches. The running boards have a cooling area of 190 square inches. I’m using running boards coolers and installed them in the tunnel. The nose air-to-air cooler is still connected at this time. I ran the sled yesterday for about 20 minutes, using water running on the track and the track throwing water on the coolers, never over heated. I am using the by-pass thermostat that closes the by-pass port when the water temp reaches 120f.

I’ll have to wait until the snow flies again to find out if the mod keeps the sled cool during slow trail riding, anything less than 30 mph.

I plan on completing the same mod to my 600HO Fusion.

Is this something I should be concerned with on my 08 SW?

No this should not be a problem with the 08 600/700 switchbacks, that have full length tunnel coolers. That is where I got the ideal. And no silly nose cooler.

We sell the standard rear polaris coolers. Before I put one on I had a guy build me a flat tap cover to go over the hoses and hold a 2.5-5 gallon tank. But it didnt look so nice after the 6 straps I used to make sure it didnt move when I hit the jumps so I just use the 9 gallon tank now with an empty back up 1 gallon tank fit under the hood on top of the belt guart with a small strap to the support arm to hold it in place. I have only had to us it one time so its mostly for piece of mind. Best plan-always ride with a buddy who has a big tank so you can get some if you need it. When we install the coolers we cut about another 3/4" off the end of each hose to get a lower profile then we usually heat up a sheet of abs plastic over a 1.5 tube in the oven and then rivit it to the sled. Looks good and give the hoses that extra protection. Cooler and pics here: http://www.jspowersports.com/polaris_iq.htm

On my X old heavy mod 03 700 SKS (5000+ miles) I installed a used 1996 Polaris left side running broad cooler under the left running board. Very easy, just drilling holes, rivets & a few coolant hoses. Also removed the thermostat, plugged by pass hose, as Larry Rugland (LRM) told me that all of his mod race engines make the most power at 90* F, more reliable!
Also added Red line Water Wetter.
