looking for a 4x4..
I will be towing my sled on its single trailer so I know this vehicle will be great for that light load.
its specs say the Liberty V6 3.7L Auto will tow 5000lbs - which is much higher than any vehicle in its class like the Ford Escape, Toyota Rav4 or the Nissan X trail.
I am hopeing to buy a smaller suv that will tow my boat that weighs about 3500lbs.... not all that much, but from time to time.
so how does your Liberty tow ?

I don't own one, but my buddy does and he pulls a two place clam shell with two REVs on it. its an 06 3.7 with 17 or 18" wheels. It looks small and feels small when you set in the seat but he has no trouble pulling the selds. I'd think youd be all set with one, less the 16-17mpg like he averages (with no trailer). I drove one on a 1500 mile trip (05 3.7) and it never seem more than 19mpg but it only had about 2,000 miles on it at the time. maybe they get better.

My wife's 06 3.7 is a turd and rarely gets 17 MPG CDN. Winter city mileage is around 14. I won't even put a hitch on it as my 4dr 5.3 Sierra 4x4 gets better mileage no matter what. It has sucked fuel, had all the intake valves replaced and had a shudder since new that I'm supposed to expect being a 4x4 - asshats
It does have a low first gear so getting moving should be OK but I sure wouldn't want to stop a 3500# boat or have to turn while braking with the tiny footprint.
I would think it would suck the gas tank right under the hood with a trailer on.
Cheers

You'll do better with the Escape/Mariner. Guy across the street from had a Liberty with V-6, pulling his 17ft boat he got 9mpg at 70mph. He now has an Mercury Mariner and gets 16mpg at 75mph, and without a load gets 23mpg at 75mph.

thanks guys.. too many people are saying it wont do it and it will get horrible gas mileage so I am going to look for a bigger truck...
still the Liberty is rated for 5000lbs towin, which is more than any vehicle in its class... the Escape is rated at 3500lbs and only has a 3.0L engine... lib has a 3.7 with more hp and torque. still not enough for my rig IMO

Wow, I can't believe all the negative posts. I own a 2002 Liberty and it pulls things like it's not even there. I average about 18 MPG not towing and about 14 towing. It has a full frame unlike an escape that is more car like uni-body. It's a little more bouncy than an escape because of the full frmae under it but is much more durable too.

Huge understatements on this phenominal vehicle.
We get 18-19 easily on our 2007 3.7v6 on our way to florida this past march and running those highways is putting your rpms up to atleast 3000-3300 thats not average running speeds.
someone thats not getting more then 16 has a major problem on there hands and should get it looked at.
these jeeps are very versitiale. have had it through a 4' ditch in 3 feetof snow in 2 wheel drive had a lil problem put it in 4wheel high got right out no problem.. great jeep
weve towed a john deere midsize farm tractor with no real drag and gas wasnt much different..
towing snowmobiles with this thing will be no problems watsoever.
Really great suv!

Wow my 6.0 395 hp AWD Trailblazer SS gets better gas mileage than that.... And it has 4.10 gears.... But it also does better than the LT V6 Trailblazer.. How does that happen a V-8 does better than a V-6
