was passing through lunenburg on our way to camp today. This moose crossed the road in front
of us went down a dirt road looking for food. A bit up the road there was this coy dog attempting
to move in on the moose. Not sure if the moose just had a bad case of ticks or if it was sick.
Well it seemed strange to go to camp and not go riding. The snow is gone and the grass is greening up

Moose are shedding their "winter coats" this time of year. They do look pretty shaggy. Ticks are also a problem and from what I have read can be deadly.

Serbie, It was on Rte.2 a couple miles south of the village ( after where you useally see them )I don't know the the dirt rd. name. That moose was by far the worst I have seen shedding or not. and the coy dog was about 75 yards away from him

They're everywhere now. I've spent my entire life in the woods around VT, and I didn't know what a tick looked like until about 3 years ago as well. Now my dog has lyme disease, and I have to spray chemicals on my pants.

It really was a pretty harsh winter for wildlife, the owls, deer, etc..., Then we had that stretch of mild weather at 80 degrees, which I am sure aided in the fast shedding of winter coats. Had three dead deer up here, yearlings, just dead in the snow. Either of starvation, or exhaustion. The only critters that survived the winter well, were ARTIC CATS
