Thursday Club #1, Apr 24, 6:00 AM "Popple Shuffle" (4/24/2008)

-1 deg at post time: See Wednesday report for trails. I was talking with Mark at Governor’s yesterday and he said conditions were great towards Serpentine and off trail towards Big Bald Mountain. He is having his annual closing bash this Saturday the “Popple Shuffle”. It looks like the temperatures going forward to Saturday are going to stay reasonably cool which should hold the snow a bit longer. A sledder was up from Roger Lake on 23 and said conditions were great except from TV Tower to Governor’s that the road was showing some ice and the odd bare patch, but easily manageable on the sides. If anyone knows there way between Governor's and Serpentine there is some awesome off-trail riding in The Big South towards Big Bald Mountain and also in the area of the Christmas Mountains. Check out Mark’s report on his web site

Thursday Update 6 PM (4/24/2008)

For those that may make one last trip and want to leave early, I have an update from Governor's Web Site:
"-2 degrees at post time and snowing this morning till about 1100 am. And light snow falling now.
Just got back form a rip down piston alley down about 3 or 4 miles from Red Pine shelter and to there back up to T.V. Tower she's still wicked going with anywhere between 1 to over 2 feet of snow and she's flat! There has been no trucks or 4 wheelers on it but there is one washout about 4 miles before T.V. Tower that is marked with trees and if you stay to your left on your way to Governors there is still over 2 feet to travel over it.
TV. Tower to Popple ( 5 miles ) will be good for at least this weekend but it is all ice in the center and patches of ground starting to show but still lots of soft snow on the sides and still good going. Everyone that plans on taken a run at this time of year should drive with caution because things can change within a few days and even though its still really good going at high speeds be fully aware!
Well I am off to town to load up for the weekend and from what I am hearing and the calls and E mails received she should be a good turn out for the annual Popple Shuffle. Its going to be another Blast I am sure so don t miss out."

I get this info from bathursttrails.com,I wish i could make it but we have an important meeting this weekend for our club.

We were up last Saturday, put on 300 km. Probably best to unload at Rogers Lake now as the trail is not good from either Nep lodge or Chaleur. We may go up again Saturday, possibly leaving from Renous Highway area. I think we met before as I was part of the group that took your group into Richibucto for gas when the power was out at the Irving in Rexton, on March 21. The best snow in the Bathurst area is from Governors up to Serpentine. In most other areas there a lot of washouts so you have to be really carefull.
Usually a big turn-out for the Popple Shuffle at Governors.
