A little therapy session for those of us without motorized fun in the summer. After raking the grass all weekend I got a few hours to myself to do a little nymphing. Tested out my camera. Looks a lot better on my pc than on photobucket, must have been the compression of the video.

After I pulled that from under the cut bank I stuck my camera under to see if there was any more.

Been down the Narrow River yet?

Haven't been able to travel to RI yet except for some squid. The better fishing is in Providence area. Snag and drop.

Big bite is on
Randy Bagwell, skipper of River Rebel Charters, wrote Thursday: “We went out early this morning on a bait run for the charters we have over the next several days. While we did very well catching pogies I set my daughter Sara up with a live line and she boarded a pair of 20-plus pounders. The bait is still in the Tiverton Basin along with some large blues and striped bass if you can get your bait under the blues.”

The bite from Prudence Island to Pawtucket presents “the opportunity of a lifetime,” says Kenny Ferrara of Ray’s Bait & Tackle, but he adds, “Nobody is fishing.”

Large schools of baitfish have been appearing around Bold and India Point, generally on the dropping tide. Bass have been getting there first, and then bluefish show up. Boaters have an advantage because they can move around searching for bait and predators. There are so many fish on the upper Bay that both high- and low-tide changes are productive, said Kenny Ferrara the elder. Shore-bound fishermen have been scoring on the low tide. They have been taking fish between 35 and 40 inches long near the sewer plant in East Greenwich.

“Steve McKenna nailed a 37-pound fish from the surf on a live eel in Narragansett on Wednesday night,” said Bill Nolan, “and he had a couple others just a bit smaller. He said the action was non-stop for the better part of an hour just after dark.” The bass and bluefish bites in Narragansett have been strong for a week, said Bill McEvoy of King Cove Outditters.

Spent a few hours in the Providence River on Sat. Pogies as far as you could see. The fish that were under them had to be too full to eat. They would not take a snagged pogie. Filled a large cooler to be used another time. The entire bay North of Prudence will continue to produce for a few more weeks. Spent some time with my boys in the canoe chasing kivers.

Nothing beats a nice morning on the water.

We caught 10 fish before the rain got the better of us. All small mouth bass. Fun day on the lake... but still prefer being on the white stuff with the sled.

Jon, you make that fish look small. Is that senko wacky rigged?

Hey Casey, I know it doesn't look like a 3 pounder but it's. Yes it's o-wacky rigged actually. I put a rubber o-ring on the senko then the o-ring threw the hook. As you can see the senko slides up the line when the fish bite. The o-wacky tool I get at Bas Pro Shops, it sells for $5.49 and comes with 10 o-rings. o-rings are sold in lots of 25 for $1.19 black or $1.59 for red o-rings. I have caught 10 fish before one the same worm, thats money saved for gas to be used on our winter sport. beer_cheers.gif

Brookie fishing has been decent.

Jeremy, that is a great fish. I want a replica mount of a Brookie that big. Was it caught in the evening, looks dark.

Early morning on an egg pattern during the sucker spawn. The brook trout come from the lake and hang right behind the suckers eating the eggs. We use small versions of steelhead egg flies and they work well for like 10 days, then the trout move back into the lakes. I have a guy that owes me a replica, and I am waiting for a 4+ pounder to have done. The guy just did a salmon replica for me.

mainecorrado
hooked this beast while striper fishing, thought i had the striper of my life! this was pretty cool too!!

Rich that must have been a nice fight? That is a Sturgeon. I heard they are a prehistoric fish. I'm not sure your allowed to catch those. Does anybody know if your allowed to in Maine?

The sea sturgeon is a very large fish. In the Delaware River where sturgeon persisted until recently in larger numbers than in New England, ripe males are up to about 6 to 7 feet in length, averaging 65 pounds in weight; the, spawning females (which are larger), up to about, 10 feet and to about 250 pounds,[88] with a larger one taken from time to time. And the general run was about the same in the Kennebec, to judge from an average weight of 120 pounds for males and females together, during the years when a fishery was carried on there. But some still grow considerably larger in Gulf of Maine waters. Thus 9 weighing between 350 pounds and 600 [page 82] pounds were landed in Portland, Maine, from the South Channel, Georges Bank, Browns Bank, and Western Bank off Nova Scotia during the period 1927-1935.[89] About 12 feet is perhaps the greatest length to be expected today. But 18 feet, reported for New England many years ago, may not have been an exaggeration, for sturgeon as long as that have been reported from Europe also. The heaviest Gulf of Maine sturgeon reliably reported (to our knowledge) was one of 600 pounds, landed in Portland by the steam trawler Fabia from Georges Bank, December 21, 1932.

I think it is illegal to target them but if you happen to catch one Striper Fishing then you must release it in the safest way possible. That is a sweet fish Mainecorrado and I would do the same if I caught one. Take a great picture for a great memory.

J, that replica mount looks perfect. I am getting two previous saltwater catches mounted. A 50+ lb Wahoo Mount, and a 50lb Amberjack Mount as well. All I need is a 50lb Striper to go with them.
