Guys. I was sent some card and information in the mail about a free $2000 life insurance policy
for being a Vast Member. I filled out the info thinking, "well, if its free, why not"

I was contacted by an AIL Representative
http://www.ailins.com/main/default.aspx

I had to set up a meeting at the house, and they came over yesterday. I knew I smelt a rat!!!

As it turns out, you do get a $2000 life insurance card. Vast joined AIL INsurance as part of a benefit
to there members, and in turn for VAST joined, all members are entitled to the $2000.

HOWEVER. You have to listen to their hour and a half shpeal on life insurance, and all this other
BS that they sell. For me, it was ok because Im actually at the point in my life where Im looking into
life insurance. I did have a few questions, and the lady was very helpful and knowledgeable...

So, maybe its a good thing. Just a BEWARE to anybody who doesnt like being solisited to buy something.

Like I said, I knew I smelt a rat somewhere.....

Anybody sign up for this, and receive the $2000????

The last thing on my mind at age 26 was life insurance!! yelrotflmao.gif But thats not saying its not a smart thing to consider,..but at 26 I can name about 3 things that came first,....Ok,..300 things! $2000 isnt anough for the casket, but if its free, and can be in conjuction with OTHER insurances, then maybe its OK....

my daughter and son in law just did it this past saturday. only the 2000 policy but they tried
hard to sell them additional benefits.

Well, even though $2000 wont pay for the casket, it beats nothing.

ANd yeah, at age 26, why think about death, I know, I know.

I didnt buy anything, however I was very interested in what they had to say.

I probebly wont get life insurance for at least another few years.

Yep! I sent it in on line, never got any policy, then started getting phone calls. They said, well we have to sign off on the insurance. I knew they wanted to do their sales pitch. I just didn't have the time for it. So after they BUGGED me till I couldn't stand it any more, I told them to forget it I just don't have the time. So they pushed it some more. Finally I told them, ya know what, I don't even want the free $2000.00 coverage. This really surprised them. Response was, wow you don't want the coverage. I said, no I do not, good bye. Not a bad marketing strategy, they probably sold a lot of policies.

This isn't a slam on you Serbie, but I'm sure my mid 20's nephew didn't think about it either. Luckily the company he worked for did and it was more than $2,000. Insurance is the one thing everybody needs to find a way to afford (and I'm glad VAST/Vermont put the liability requirement on sleds).

The $2,000 is a marketing gimmick to do a high pressure sales pitch. It may be right for some, if not go to your local agent and talk to them about a way to get some sort of life insurance. It can make a terrible situation a little more tolerable and is relatively inexpensive when you are young. Trust me on this one.

And major props to the original poster for having the maturity at 26 years old to not just throw the thing out.

When I was 19 I didn't make many really good decisions... except for 1... purchased a whole life insurance policy with options to buy additional insurance without qualification as I got older. It wasn't a fortune but now when I retire (if ever) I will have a nice little lump of cash that I never felt leave my wallet.

I am not in the insurance business but don't count on the government to take care of you when you get old!
