What type of work experience?

I've been there a few times, worked with prosno last year for a bit. We took the sleds (and groomer) in there a couple of times this winter. It's an interesting place. Probably a little too early to bring a fishing rod (and a little too late for ice fishing).

It's pretty busy with lots of shit to see right now. They are re-runnering the powerhouse, which means they are pulling the entire generator/turbine set of each unit (one at a time) out of the hole, and installing a redesigned turbine to increase the power output. With that, they have to upgrade the stator, rotor, transformers, and all the auxiliaries, basically rebuilding all the units. Most of the work is being done by contractors, but a lot of them are pretty good to talk to if you have any questions.

Most people that are in there are pretty happy with the place. I think for the most part all the supervisors are pretty good to work for, and the shops have a bunch of good guys as well. Depending on what shift you happen to land on, you better start preparing your liver. And there is no store onsite, so if you want beer/whiskey/whatever, you gotta bring it in yourself, or know someone to call to put it on the plane. Fly in is the only way in, no roads out. They had to stop pushing winter roads for security compliance reasons. Food is great, they treat you good at the staffhouse. You will eat well, and likely put on a few pounds if you spend any serious time up there. In the evening, again depending on what shift, there is usually something going on. The staffhouse has a gym, pool table, shuffleboard, darts, big TV room. There are card games every once in a while. In summer, there is a little golf course outside. Lots of hiking available if you want to. The contractor's houses have pooltables and entertainment rooms as well.

When you pack up to go, pack everything you will need for the time you are there. There's no convenience store for toothpaste, tums, tylenol, stuff like that. Pretty sure the rooms/houses have toilet paper and soap and that kind of stuff. If you think you might plan on playing some cards or buying some supplies off of people, take some cash, there's no ATM there either.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be working in the shops, but not 100% sure. Fly out thursday afternoon and come back next thursday. I'm doing my work experience as part of a power mechanics course offered at the highschool here. We need atleast 60 hrs of work experience to be credited. So, someone from hydro offered this week long trip to kelsey to my teacher and I took it.

Hey F5, not sure who's in there for mechanics right now, but if there's a guy called Radford, you should comment on how old he is, like older than time itself. He might be operating, I'm not sure.
