I recently purchased a 2002 Grand Touring 500 liquid with electric start and reverse. If the battery is dead or removed it won't start on the pull cord. If I start it and disconnect the battery it keeps running, for starting it has no fire if the battery is dead. Is this normal? If not, any ideas what's wrong?

that is normal, the electrical system is different in an e/s to a pull start
