I have never changed my impeller. I have a manual and it looks easy enough. But, being a newbie I am just nervous I will muck it up. The temps run at 140 and never failed. I know its probably time. Any advice is appreciated. ZR

It's not too bad. Don't worry about replacing the housing unless it is warped or cracked. Also, make sure you twist the impeller blades the correct direction when putting the housing on.

Make sure it is in forward gear before removing it and don't touch the prop when you do get it off. I would replace the wear plate along with the impeller and gaskets. Don't matter which way you put in the impeller it will correct it's self when you run it. I would use a little vasoline on it also.

Alpha 1 Impeller Kit # 47-89984T5 $45.30 let me know if you need one I can ship it to you for $5.

Justin,
Thanks for the reply. Can it be trimmed up to do the work? Or do I have to raise the back to drop the lower end? Also, is it just removing 4 bolts and the lower end slides right off? Or do these things get stuck on there and its hammer time? I appreciate any info. Thanks again. ZR

don't loose the little o ring that goes between the housings= its where the gear oil gets to the top, and make sure you get the hose on when putting it togeather and it might take a little rubber hammering to get it apart, make sure you get all the gasket off the impella housing before installing the new one

dont forget the bolt under the "torque tab" or depending on year, anode.....alot of guys forget this and end up scraping the shit out of there housings trying to pry the halves apart. If its a fresh water boat they will just about fall apart when all loose. Also depending on the model it may be a socket head cap screw going down from the top of the driveshaft housing into the anode, either way make sure ya dont forget it.

I usually use a big shot of dish soap to lube up the impeller.....makes it fall right into place and washes right out in the water, some oils and grease will break down the rubber on the impeller so try to stay away from anything with petrolium.

Watch the exhaust dam as well, will prolly be fine on a newer model alpha but some of the older ones need some RTV or something to seal them up once apart...... if this doesn't get sealed it can and or usually will put exhaust gases into the cooling system causing a overheat problem. The rest of it is pretty basic and should be explained in your manual.

Good luck....if ya get hung up feel free to shoot me a pm or call
