I wouldn't say NY gets a lot of snow but we get snow! I think this is the year for the heavy snowfall! While you are out here take a trip to the tug hill it is great up there.

well to be completely honest the winters have sucked around here for the last couple of years... I live about 15-20 min. from RIT, out that way there is no real trail, you have to get out into the town of Rush which is the next town over from henrietta about 5 minutes or so. The biggest trail system around this area is the Hilton snoflyers, from those trail you can connect to other club trails and ride out to niagra falls going west or going south (toward Rush) and head toward the southern part of the state. when we get good snow like we used to riding around here is a lot of fun.. most clubs groom the trails very well. you can easily do 100 plus mile rides without too much trouble. as for back country riding... we just dont have any. it is all trail riding except for a few fields and such up near tug hill more north in the state. I would say bring your sled because there is plenty of riding to do when we get snow.. hopefully next year! I have seen people riding mountain sleds around here but not a lot lot only because most everything we ride is groomed. If you have anymore questions you can PM me, good luck at RIT next year it is a very good college!

Where do you plan on keeping your sled at RIT? I went there, I barely had a place to park. They won't be very reseptive to a trailer in the parking lot.
It might be more of a hassle than it's worth.

ditto what these guys said, your mountain sled is pretty useless around here.i just dont know how a mtn sled acts on groomed trails.1 minute from RIT is the start of the "greenway" which when our trails are open and we have snow you can go pretty much anywhere from in western and southern NY.tug hill is only 2.5 hrs from here, this year i made 7 day trips, and 1 over night trip up there this year.

Yep, either ditch the mountain sled or pick up a short track. Our riding here in New York is 99% groomed trails, because 80% of our trails are on private property. Not trying to sound like a dick, but trails are closing due to snowmobilers taking advantage of the landowners.
On a side note, Rochester, New York averages 100 inches a year. We receive plenty of snow from the Great Lakes to ride on. If you start asking around, you might find a HCS memeber around Rochester that will allow you to keep your sled at their place. Your more then welcome to store your sled at my house (for free). I live about 20-25 minutes from RIT, and have hundreds of miles of trails right out of my backdoor. Start your planning now, and come next winter you'll be all set.

as snowman said, you could also store your sled at my house also for free. I live about 15 min away in Hilton. I also have 100's of miles out my back door

The politicians are morons here, but if you stick around the suburbs/country area there are alot of great people and places. The only reason I go in the city is for sporting events or dinosaur BBQ.Other than that,I have no use for the welfare minoritiy ridden streets of "the Roc".Useless bloodsuckers.
Make sure you make it to Letchworth state park in summer and winter.

I'm not sure what you have for a mt. sled , but I rode my 144 rmk 800 for 3 years with no problems. Now I ride a 144 IQR600 and still don't have any problems. Both of them had stock cooling systems and 1.5 - 2' tracks. I'm about a 1/2hr. west of RIT. Not the most practical machines but they worked.

Your Viper Mt. would be fine. If you want to get into some real snow without going to tug hill I would be more than happy to show you around wyoming and southern erie county. I work in Henrieatta (i know i cant spell) and live in groveland which is due south off of I-390. I mostly ride in the North Java, Bliss area and know quite a few places and can get off trail leagally. there are tons af sweet places to ride and huge drifts.
Oh and I'm bout the same age as you. I just graduated college in February.

Garbage plates are great sober or drunk! Steve T's is still owned by either son or brother, some relation they split up the 2 restaurants for some reason. don't fool yourself they cleaned a little but it is still nicks! Down town is still the best but I believe closes at 8PM because of too many problems at night (Told by the city what hours they could be open).
