I bought a Sony Camcorder that uses the Mini-DV tapes. Not quite sure how to use this thing. Do I record until the tape fills up and then download the video to my hard drive? Can I record some, download that video and then use the same tape to record on the unused portion of the tape?

Anybody have any recommendation on a decently priced external hard drive?
