I rode over 2,000 miles in the NEK this winter and didn't see one moose. Saw some tracks, but very few. Think maybe the state of Vermont should either increase the number of moose permits or extend the season a few more weeks? Good 'ol state of Vt, always looking for more ways to screw with the wildlife while fattening their coffers. Gotta give 'em credit though, as much as I regret doing so, they didn't have any doe permits in the NEK last deer season. Maybe the herds will recover. Gonna do the same (if not already done) to the moose herd. I wonder what wildlife they're trying to protect in that extensive wildlife area up there? I do agree, when they started the moose season, there was a need but, as I said, as usual the state went way too far. Ya, I know nothing about wildlife management but do the ones in power? We have to really "hunt" to see them in the summer, I'm really happy that our granddaughter has seen them before, may not get the chance as easily now. The End

no the moose population is way down and the ones that make thru moose season are getting educated quick we ( their are 11 of us that guide ) find we have to get farther and farther back every season and you are right the state will wipe them out for a buck or two, but as the sucsess on permit drop they will keep raising the number of permits there is still alot of moose you have to be of the roads i hunted 11 days around Granby north to 105 i saw 4 deer and 16 moose

I agree 100% that they are totally messing it all up. They dont even realize that there ruining the moose population, and giving out more permits every year certainly doesnt help. Hopefully, between the weather and the low numbers off moose, it will reflect on the moose hunt success rate and people will realize that there really arent as many as they think. (sorry moose hunters) I didnt even apply this year, I shot one a few years ago, but it sure would be awefull to completly ruin the moose population...
one ton fun
I applied this year, just like I have for the past 4 years. I talked to a game warden last year and he told me they had the herd right where they wanted it and that they would be giving out fewer permits this year. I was surprised when I opened up my application and it said they were giving out 12xx permits this season. I saw 1 moose this winter while on my snowmobile.
mach 2005
i actually saw more moose this year between groton and the border than i ever have.
