Full Version: What to buy for my second sled?

I traded my 07 F8 snopro in for a TZ1 turbo touring but now I'm thinking about trading my Mach Z in for my second sled.
I'm leaning towards a crossfire 1000 but I liked the fuel milage so much on my Mach (14-17.5 mpg) and speed, plus I had many Yamaha 4-stroke before this and loved the gas milage on those + the fact I didn't have to worry about adding or carrying oil.
I do a lot of long trips on 3-4 day adventures and it's nice not having to buy oil over the counter at these gas stations. (they really bend you over). But it's more of a hassle than anything.
Would I be happy with a standard Z1 non turbo? Or is it best to buy the crossfire 1000 and save the TZ1 turbo for my long trips and use the 1000 for my one day rides?
I loved the ride and handling of my F8 so I'm not sure if I'd be happy with two big 4-strokes.
I was going to keep the Mach Z but my Cat dealer is offering me a pretty good trade-in price, so It's hard not to do it.
Maybe I would be interested in an F series also.
I was just thinking the crossfire wold be something different.
Or would it be better just to keep the Mach for one more year and wait to see what Cat comes out with for 2010?
What's your thoughts?
One other thing, the guys I ride with all run muscle sleds. Either turbo Yamahas or built Yamahas.
(I use to ride Yamahas but now all my buddies switched, so I have to be different).
Thanks!
Vince
If you still want the speed go with a Crossfire R 1000.
ViperGTS/F7
I don't think you could go wrong with the crossfire as the second sled.
I nearly ordered one of those over the Turbo

Well, I changed my mind today and went up to the Cat dealer and canceled the TZ1 turbo touring LE and ordered the Z1 turbo LE short track and I also orderd the TZ1 touring regular, non turbo. (I liked the green).
I traded my F8 snopro and my Mach Z.
I should be set for solo running and also when I take the family.
I didn't think I really needed a turbo touring when I go out with the family.
I hope I'm happy with my choices.
It's going to be a long summer.

Good choice on the TZ1. That's what I ended up doing as well. I'll use it for towing the kids around in an Equinox and Trail rides, where the Turbo is meaningless. I'll take 35 lbs less weight in the front for better handling. The non-turbo can still get to mid 90's on hard packed snow, over 100 mph on glare, that is enough.

Both my collage age kids are transfering closer to home, so we should be able to get out a lot more now. (only about 500 miles this year).
They both love to snowmobile and go with me every time they come home.
My younger kids are getting to a point now that they love snowmobile also and are always begging to go along.
My wife hasn't riden in years but maybe with these sleds she'll want to go again and we can go as a family.
+ I put on a lot of miles a year myself and I like to split the miles up between two or three sleds.
Maybe with the four strokes I won't have to worry about that so much any more.
Looking forward to having a really fun year!
Can't wait.

If that TZ1 doesn't get your wife back riding nothing will, it's easy to steer, and it's easy on the body.

Lets hope for another good winter thumbsup.png

The key to getting the wife back into it, is to scout out a mint trail and then take her on a short run on it on a nice sunny day and throw in some good food along the way!!!lol,,,and dress her warm and make damn sure she has the latest and greatest in gear!!

P.S. It had to have taken a ton of will power to pass up the 1000rLE!!!!!! holy buckets!!lol. I damn near bought one myself!!But the turbo will be more then enough and the 2 up will be fun on the family days so you did good!!IMO

The Z1 is fast enough for most sledders. I came off a F7 and am real happy. It will take a good 1200 miles for it to break in and then it rips. As for comfort....there is no comparo on the snow.....believe me I have tried them all.

Thanks for all the input.
I hope I made the right choice.
It was hard not to go with the 1000R but decided I'd tray a whole year without dealing with oil. (still have the 05 F6 snopro Joker special). (I may retire that one though. Pull the motor and put it in my rec room). (neatest looking sled I've ever seen and I don't think many where made).
And also I hope the 4-strokes get better fuel milage than the 1000 2-stroke.
I think the TZ1 will make a great family sled and the Z1 turbo should be great for running with the guys.
Summer sucks! It's going to be way to long this year!
Thanks again.
