I have a 76' Cheetah 5000 motor that I want to rebuild just as a fun summer project. It is definitely blown up. One piston just has some black carbon buildup, and the other has a big hole in it (well not a hole but a pit in the center). The crank looks fine, but in the case there is some junk. The jugs are somewhat scuffed on the inside also. As far as rebuilding this, what do you think I should replace in it. Also what are the steps to do this the right way? Should I be worried about the crank being bent or anything like that?? Are there any other things I should look for that may have happened when it was blown up?? I have grown up around sleds and cars so this stuff is not new to me, I just want to have some fun this summer with this and do this right to get it running again..maybe throw it into a chassis and have some fun in the fields with it. Any information or suggestions on how this is to be done will be very helpful and appreciated...

just cleen it all up good, and make sure all he bearings are tight, and hone the cylynders, if that doesnt bring out the scuffs then think about mabee replating them or finding a decent set.
remember, if you want it to last, dont cheep out, put both new pistons in it, not just the bad one, and buy a complete gasket set, not just head gaskets and crank seals, it will make your life alot easyer.

if there's metal in the case i would do crank bearings, as long as it's torn down.
ALL NEW SEALS AND GASKETS - some people reuse gaskets????? Why?????
Take your time, clean all surfaces, Use a good Torque Wrench.
