i'm trying to figure out how the awd system is engaged on my 2000 polaris xplorer 4x4. its the one that uses
magnetic coils in the front struts.

does anybody know how to test via voltages, or just get them to engage.

thx

What exactly is the problem, does the AWD light on the right handlebar come on when you are in AWD?

It's just 12 volts applied to turn it on, the removed it disengaes, is controlled through the pod

I'm not sure if you found your answer yet, but you do know that your 4x4 system is "on demand" right? The rear tires have to start to spin before the front will kick in. If the wires are in tact and connected to the terminal board as they are supposed to be (barring any other electrical issues or a faulty switch on the handle bars, or problems in the hubs), they should work.

The first time I drove my quad I wanted to test the 4x4 and the salesman had me set it up against a telephone pole and try to spin all four tires (it's a used 1997 xplorer 400). It just dug holes in the rear and then all of a sudden climbed right up the pole grgrin.gif I thought it wasn't working until then.

Just thought I would mention it in case you hadn't thought of that.

To test 4wd; raise the machine so all 4 wheels are off the ground. Support the machine well. Turn on the 4wd and start the machine. Start the rear wheels turning and apply a little drag on the front wheel. It should engage and turn. Repeat on the other side. If it doesn't engage, hold the reverse over ride button in and try it. If it works then, it means that you have a bad control module. If not look at wire connectoions and wires from the connecotr board down to the wheel for breaks.

i had the same problem with my forwheel drive they siad i had the magnetic coil in to far for it to grab the metal plate and lock in so try what bb454 said and when u aply the pressure if the tire doesnt turn ur magnetic ciol may bne to far in and not grabbing to lock in you also may have a broken hillary hub in it like mine ws also mine broke twice just to let u know the hilary hub and the coils are pretyy pricy
